Goal

Over a season earn the most victory points by collecting truffles, completing missions and evading two roaming packs of wolves!

Setup

  1. Players pick a pig color and take a player board, direction cards and level marker of that color.
  2. Place your level marker on your player board in the left most box, you start with 3 actions.
  3. Shuffle and stack the forest tiles, making sure the Winter side is face down.
  4. Pulling off the top of the stack, layout a 4 x 5 grid.
  5. Place the wolf track at the top of the forest, this will be considered North during the game.
  6. Each player places one pig on each secret path tile.
  7. Put a Brown wolf on the Brown Den facing North.
  8. Shuffle the truffles, point side down.
  9. Put truffles on their tile spaces.
  10. Give the wolf die to the youngest player.

Components shown: wolf track, super powers, forest tiles, truffle locations, secret path tile, wolf den, player board and level marker, directions, missions.

Reveal Super Powers

  1. Shuffle and place 3 superpower cards face up below the wolf track.

Example: Super Jump (cost 2 actions): Jump 2 spaces over any wolves or walls.

Draft Missions

  1. Shuffle and deal 3 mission cards to players.
  2. Each player picks 1 mission and places it in front of them, and passes the two remaining cards to the player on the left.
  3. Players pick between these two missions, and pass the last mission to the left.
  4. Each player should now have 3 missions!

Example mission (worth 3 victory points): Collect one of each truffle during a Season, score 3 victory points.

The Wolves

Two wolf packs patrol the forest, hoping to scare away truffle hunting pigs!

If a wolf and pig are ever on the same tile that pig leaves the forest!

If both your pigs run away, you must give one truffle to each player and you are knocked out of the forest!

Note: Even without pigs left in the game, you still roll the wolf die and play wolf cards during your turn.

The Wolf Die

This determines how many wolf cards each player will play this round and if any new wolves will appear.

  • 1: 1 direction card
  • 2: 2 direction cards
  • Wolf with 1: new wolf & 1 card
  • Wolf with 2: new wolf & 2 cards
  • Moon: wolves sleep, no movement

The 4 wolves in the game appear in this order: Season Start: Brown -> Grey -> Brown -> Grey

Truffles

There are 3 different truffles you are hunting for, they each take a certain amount of actions to collect.

  • 1 dig action: 50% chance of 1VP
  • 2 dig actions: 70% chance of 1-2 VP
  • 3 dig actions: 100% chance of 2-3 VP

Super Truffles!

Collecting White and Golden truffles also have a chance to find SUPER TRUFFLES! These can be spent during your turn to use any available super power card for free! Discard the super truffle once used.

Round Structure

  1. The starting player rolls the wolf die.
  2. Players take their turns.
  3. The Wolves move.
  4. Replace any used Super Powers.
  5. Wolf die is passed to player on the left.

Player Turns

  1. Stay or Leave Forest
  2. Spend Actions
    • Upgrade Level
    • Complete Missions
  3. Play Direction cards (wolf cards).

1. Stay or Leave Forest

At the start of your turn you can decide to leave the forest by taking your pigs off the board.

If you leave, you will score all the truffles you collected in your backpack at the end of the game!

Even if you leave you still roll the wolf die on your turn and play wolf cards!

2. Spend Actions

  • Actions are spent to Move, Dig or use Powers.
  • Players start the game with 3 Actions.

Move

  • A pig can move one tile per action.
  • Pigs cannot move diagonally.
  • More than one pig can be on a tile at a time.
  • Pigs stop at stone walls and the edge of the board.

Dig

  • You can dig one level per action.
  • Put your pig on top of the truffle to show progress (1 dig, 2 digs, 100%).
  • If a pig is on top, no one else can dig for that truffle.
  • You can leave a truffle but lose all digging progress.
  • Once you dig enough to collect the truffle place it in the backpack area of your player board.

Use Powers

  • Cost the action points indicated on each card.
  • Powers are one time use, discard card into a deck.
  • If you run out of cards, shuffle & reuse discard pile.
  • Knocking out a wolf - some powers can knock out a wolf, if this happens the wolf is laid on its back and does not move this round.

Upgrade Level

  • At any point during your turn you can upgrade your duo's level and get more actions!
  • This costs 2 truffles of any type.
  • Place the spent truffles back in the box.
  • Move the level indicator on your player board.

(The player board level track shows 3, 4 and 5 actions.)

Complete Missions

At any point during your turn if you complete a mission's goals you must reveal the mission and put it face up in front of you.

You will score the number of victory points on the card at the end of the game!

3. Play Wolf Cards

At the end of your turn you must play as many wolf cards as indicated by the roll of the wolf die.

Players choose their cards and play them face-down onto either wolf track, after the last card in that track.

Players can work together to plan moves!

Note you can only place cards in the Grey Pack track once a Grey wolf has entered the forest.

You don't play wolf cards if:

  • The wolf die rolled a moon, the wolves sleep.
  • All the wolves have been knocked out.
  • There are no more free spaces on the wolf track.

Wolf Movement

Once all players have taken their turn, it is now time to move the wolves!

Wolves move based on the newly played (face down) cards on their pack's track (cards played last round are already face up).

Turn over each wolf card in sequence following these rules:

  • Knocked out wolves do not move.
  • An Arrow card moves all wolves of a color, 1 space.
  • The 2x card moves all wolves of a color 2 spaces in the direction they are facing.
  • The wolf faces the direction it is moving.
  • Wolves stop when they hit a stone wall but loop to the other side of board when they hit an edge.
  • If a wolf ever shares a tile with a pig on it, that pig runs away and leaves the board.
  • If both of your pigs run away from the forest you must give one truffle to each player!

End of Movement

  • If all five slots on a pack's track have been filled return the cards to their players.
  • If a track has not been filled, the face-up cards stay until the track is complete.
  • All knocked out wolves are revived and stand up.

End of a Round

Once the wolves have moved, if there are still pigs in the forest and more than 3 truffles left, start another round.

  • Replace any used Super Powers so there are 3.
  • Pass the wolf die to the player on the left.

End of the Game

The game ends when either:

  • All players have left the forest
  • A round ends with 3 or less truffles in the forest

Players add up the victory points on their collected truffles and their completed missions. The player with the most victory points is declared Super Truffle Pigs! If there is a tie the player with the most truffles wins!

Special Tiles

  • Stone Walls - Pigs and wolves cannot cross these to move into a tile.
  • Secret Paths - Pigs start the Season here and can jump from one path to the other using one move action. Wolves cannot use the paths.
  • Frozen Ponds (Winter) - Pigs and wolves slide across these tiles instantly in the direction that they entered.

Variants

Two Player Rules

A two player game is almost identical to a 3-4 player game but instead of 5 places on the wolf track, there are only 4 places.

Winter!

Flip the Summer tiles over to reveal a winter wonderland! The basic gameplay is the same except for some frozen ponds tiles that make the pigs and wolves slide through a tile in the direction they entered!
