Yes, under the corrected trading rule relayed by the community (a Hans im Glueck reply): you may trade even if you already hold enough to buy the hut or card, as long as the traded-for item goes into the purchase; any excess is lost. The printed Rio Grande rulebook says you may trade 'only if needed', and one replier still reads it that way.
