Overview

The Battles of Akarios expansion provides players the ability to jump right into space combat for a single session. The Battle Book streamlines the setup and players are introduced to the new dynamic market system - allowing ships to be upgraded through a battle. The other significant change is that of the modifier dice. Instead of using the modifier deck, players now roll the modifier die to determine the outcome of their attack.

Setup

Player Setup

  2. Pilot a. Choose any 1 pilot. b. Take the pilot's level 1 Pilot Upgrade card.
  3. Ship a. Choose any 1 ship. b. Set hull and shield to a combined value of 12. c. Take the ship's level 1 Ship Upgrade card.

  3. They set their supply dial to 1 and take a modifier die.

Market Setup

1. Create Market

a. Take the weapon, engine, and tech upgrade cards with matching ship classes to player ships and shuffle each to form the weapon, engine, and tech decks respectively.

b. Add all upgrades without a class restriction to the decks.

c. Draw 4 weapon, engine and tech cards faceup to create the market.

Scenario Setup

b. Perform setup as directed in the Stars of Akarios Rulebook.

Follow all other space combat setup steps as directed in the Stars of Akarios rulebook.

Example: 1. There are two ships active with the Heavy and Assault classes.

How to Play

All rules are the same as Stars of Akarios except for the following:

Supply

  • Upgrades no longer have individual supply and instead each pilot has a supply pool tracked by a supply dial that is used for all of their upgrades.
  • Pilots start with 1 supply and at the beginning of each round they receive supply equal to the round (ie 2 supply in round 2).
  • One supply is used each time a non-basic action is used from the playerboard. Each action still may only be used once per round.
  • Supply can also be used in the Market.
  • Supply can never go above 10 or below 0.

Market

  • Pilots may choose to go to the market at any time during the pilot action phase for the cost of 1 action die (do not take a stress if using a stress action die). While at the market pilots can purchase as many upgrades as they wish using their supply. One supply is equal to 15 credits. Unspent credits are lost at the end of the round.
  • After purchasing a card from the market, immediately draw a new card to take its place.
  • Purchased upgrades are immediately placed on the player board. They replace existing upgrades if there are no more slots available on the playerboard. Damaged upgrades cannot be replaced.
  • Pilots may choose to spend 1 supply to draw 1 additional weapon, engine, and tech upgrade to the market.

Modifier Dice

  • Pilots and enemies now roll modifier dice instead of drawing a card from their modifier deck to augment their attacks.
