How is damage applied to a group of several figures?

Each non-hero figure has its own Health, with damage tokens placed next to that figure (they move with it). Damage is assigned to the one figure that was hit, not the group, and the group's Deployment card returns to the Imperial hand only when the last figure is defeated.
