If the target suffers damage, the attacker picks one other hostile figure or object that it could legally attack (for a melee attack without Reach, one adjacent to the attacker) and that figure takes the Cleave damage, ignoring block. Multiple Cleave instances on one attack resolve separately, a figure barred as an attack target cannot be chosen, and conditions from the attack are not applied to the Cleave victim. A ranged attacker needs line of sight and the Accuracy to reach the new target.
