Spaces sharing an edge or a corner, so diagonals count. Spaces separated only by a wall, door or blocking-terrain edge are not adjacent, a diagonal pinch of walls/blocking terrain breaks adjacency, and a space of blocking terrain is not adjacent to anything. Figures never block adjacency, and a figure is not adjacent to itself or to its own space; small wall stubs that don't cover a full edge are ignored.
