Components
12 Hit Point (HP) cards (10x 1HP/5HP, 2x 10HP/20HP) 26 Monster cards (1x Double Trouble, 21x individual Monsters and 4x Hero-specific Monsters) 28 Hero cards (7 cards per hero)
Goal of the game
Be the first player to kill 3 monsters.
Game Set-up
All players take the 7 cards of their Hero (1 portrait card, to be placed in front of them; 5 Attacks and 1 Coffee Break, to form their hand). Shuffle the Monster cards, including the Hero-specific Monsters of the Heroes that have been chosen (their title have the same color as the heroes) to make the Monster deck. Place the Monster deck face down and the Hit Point (HP) cards next to it.
Summary of a turn
1. Monsters If no monsters are alive at the beginning of the turn, draw a Monster from the Monster deck and place it face up in the middle of the table. Give it as many HP as indicated on the card, then read its effect out loud.
2. Attacks All players choose an Attack from their hand, then lays it face down in front of them. Once all players are ready, Attacks are revealed and priorities read out loud. The Coffee Break card means that a player skips his turn (which could be a strategic choice).
3. Cancellations When an Attack is cancelled, place it face up next to your hero card. The cancellation order is as follows:
- 1 - Priorities If two or more Attacks have the same priority, all of them are cancelled.
- 2 - Monster effects If the Monster has a cancellation effect, apply it now.
- 3 - Attack effects If the Attacks that are still in play have cancellation effects, apply them now.
4. Damage All Damage modifiers are applied (those from the monster first, then those from all remaining Attacks). All Attacks that have not been cancelled now deal their damage in priority order (1, then 2, then 3, etc.). If the monster falls to 0HP (or below) after damage is applied, the Monster dies and is awarded to the Hero that dealt the final blow.
5. End of turn All players put their attack back in their hand and a new turn begins.
End of game
The game ends once a player has killed 3 Monsters. He wins the game.
Attack types and elements
Some Monster and Attack effects refer to specific Attack types and elements. There are three types and four elements in total:
- Types: Melee, Range, Magic
- Elements: Wind, Water, Fire, Earth
Information shown on cards
Attack cards show: Title, Element, Type, Priority, Damage, and Effect.
Monster cards show: Title, Hit Points, and Effect.
In case of a tie or a disagreement on the effect of cards
In case of a tie or a disagreement, the player with the least Monsters killed (within the implicated individuals) gets to decide. If two or more have the least Monsters killed, choose randomly between them.
Some precisions
Demonic Sea Cuke (Summoner) Unless its own effect is cancelled, this Attack can NEVER be cancelled, not by priorities, not by Monster effects, not by Attack effects.
Disdain Dirk (Elf) This Attack takes effect this turn AND the next, in addition to the new Attack.
Out of My Sight (Elf) During the turn following Out of My Sight, the Elf's Attack can NEVER be cancelled, not by priorities, not by Monster effects, not by Attack effects, not even if its effect is cancelled.
Philosopher Potato (Monster) Give this monster 4HP. Attacks between 1-3 damage deal 1 damage; those between 4-8 damage deal 2 damage; and 9+ damage deal 3 damage.
Even more Squish'Em Instead of ending the game after 3 kills, wait for 5 kills. You can even finish the whole Deck!
Paralysis
If a Monster paralyzes a player, that player's attack is NOT cancelled this turn. However, on the next turn, that player MUST play his Coffee Break card.
Double Trouble
If you reveal the Double Trouble card, flip the two next Monsters of the Monster deck. As long as there are two (or more) Monsters in play, all players will chose their Attack and then announce their target. Starting with the player with the most Monsters killed and turning clockwise, all players must state which Monster they're aiming for.
Be careful: The two battles are resolved independently. Effects and cancellations only affect the current battle. If an effect goes on for more than one turn, it still only applies to the specified monster. In between turns players may switch monsters.
