Rules

SPINGO is a word game played by 2 or more participants. The game consists of a pad of game sheets (spelplaner), 4 pencils and a SPINGO die.

The aim of the game is to form words horizontally and vertically on the game sheet, just as in a crossword. Only words that appear in word lists and dictionaries may be used. Proper names, abbreviations, dialect words or foreign words do not count.

The first player throws the die and chooses one of the four letters that come up. This letter must be used by all players. The chosen letter is written down in any square on the game sheet. When everyone has written the letter down, it is the next player's turn to throw.

If a player gets the SPINGO side up, they may choose whichever letter they want from the alphabet.

Letters that have been written on the game sheet may not be moved.

The game ends when all the squares on the game sheet are filled. Each player then adds up their points. The player with the highest score on their game sheet wins.

Scoring

Words score according to the number of letters they contain. Each letter scores one point.

Scoring example

Example (Ex.) — a completed 5 × 5 game sheet. Row scores are shown to the right of each row, column scores below each column, and the total is printed at the bottom right.

B R A F X → 3
N A M N Y → 4
O S G L U → 2
L P Å C V → 2
L E S K R → 2
↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

Translator's note: the printed example gives row scores 3, 4, 2, 2, 2 (sum 13) and column scores 4, 4, 3, 0, 2 (sum 13), and states a total of 26, which is the sum of the row and column scores together. The example is transcribed as printed.

LYCKA TILL! (Good luck!)
