Spangles Rulebook

A game for 2 players by David Smith.

Material

  • 50 equilateral triangles in two colors (25 each).
  • Carrying case.

Game Rules

Each player has an allocated color.

Players alternate turns placing a piece of their color on the playing surface so that each piece after the first piece rests edge to edge against any one or more pieces of either or both color already in play, until either the victory condition or a draw is reached.

Whenever a 4 piece triangle is formed with the same color pieces at each tip the game ends. The winner is the player whose pieces are at each tip. In case of both players reaching the victory condition at the same time, the player that placed the last piece wins.

The game is drawn if neither objective is achieved by either player after all 50 pieces have been placed.

Game Samples

  • Game sample 1: Started by White who fails to appreciate the danger of two adjacent pieces (2 and 4) and loses to the "roll back and double attack" strategy on turn 12.
  • Game sample 2: White's turn. Black has not won yet, as the triangle is empty. White will win by placing a tile in the marked hole, creating a winning triangle of each color.
