Objective

The idea in this extra-terrestrial game is to save your spaceships from the black holes for as long as possible. Only spaceships that are still in orbit at the end of the game count.

Preparation

Each player is given 9 spaceships of the same colour and 4 tokens if 2 to 4 players are playing or 3 tokens if 5 people are playing. The cards are not used in the basic version of the game.

Two players use the smaller orbit which has two black holes. However, if you are playing with 3 to 5 players, use the large outer orbit which has three black holes.

Take Off!

The youngest player goes first. The game is played in a clockwise direction. First the spaceships are placed in orbit and then they are used to play the game.

Putting the spaceships in orbit

Take turns to place one of your own spaceships on a square of your choice. A square may contain more than one spaceship, but they must not be of the same size. The colour is not important. This task is complete once the spaceships are all on the game board.

Playing

The game is played in orbit, in a clockwise direction. When it is your turn, choose a square that contains at least one of your own spaceships and play with every spaceship on that square — even those belonging to other players! This means that there is a chance that spaceships of the same size could end up on the same square.

Moving the spaceships. The large spaceships are used first, then the medium sized ones, and finally the small ones. If a square contains several spaceships of the same size, the player whose turn it is decides which one to move first.

The distance. The places a spaceship moves depend on the number of spaceships in the square. The first spaceship advances by one square, the second one by two squares, the third one by three squares and so on. Black holes count as squares so watch out for them because if a spaceship lands on a black hole, it disappears and is lost forever. For example: There are four spaceships on one square: one large, two medium, and one small. In this case, the large spaceship is moved forward one square, the medium spaceships advance two and three squares respectively and the small spaceship advances four squares. If a square contains only one spaceship, it advances by one square irrespective of its size.

Using the Tokens

Tokens can be used in the following two ways:

Immediately after your turn. You may either take another complete turn (you may move a complete group) or you may advance any one of your own spaceships by one square.

At any time during the game but before any of the others players take their turn, you may advance any one of your own spaceships by one square.

Please note: You may only use one token per round. Children find it easier to get used to the game if the tokens are left out during the first few rounds.

The End of the Game

The game is over when one player no longer has any spaceships in orbit. This player is given 0 points when the totals are calculated.

Remaining players calculate their points as follows:

  • Large Spaceship: 4 points
  • Medium Spaceship: 3 points
  • Small Spaceship: 1 point

Two points are awarded for any tokens that have not been used.

The winner is the player with the highest number of extra-terrestrial points at the end of the game.

Game variant with action cards

In this version, space tokens are not used and each player receives 8 action cards in the same colour as his spaceships.

On his turn, a player chooses one of its cards, puts it face up in a discard pile in front of himself and follows the instructions on the card. Each player has his own discard pile. When a player has no more cards in his hands, he takes the 8 cards on the discard pile back to his hand.
