History and Objectives
The cards provide the coordinates for jumpgate travel, scanning and developing planets with space-stations. As soon as anyone builds a space-station at a planet, it is then possible to discover/collect what's on that planet so to gain planet tiles for points. At the end of the game when a predetermined number of space tiles have been revealed, the players receive victory points for jumpgate usage, collected planet tiles and the space-stations which they've built.
Preparation
The (1) jump gate is placed in the middle of the table. The (12) planets are shuffled and (8) planets are randomly placed around the jump gate (the remaining (4) planets go back into the box not used). The (64) planet tiles (consisting of (48) point tiles and (16) worthless space tiles) are shuffled face down and randomly divided so that a stack of (8) planet tiles are face down next to each of the planets.
Each player receives (1) spacecraft placed on the jump gate. Players take all (20) of their Space-Probe/Space-Station colored chips. The (60) NavComp cards are then shuffled dealing (5) cards to each player making their hand. The remaining cards form a draw pile face down. The youngest player starts, then go clockwise.
On Your Turn
Always perform TWO actions in any order (same action ok):
- PREP YOUR NAV/SCANNING COMPUTERS – Discard any number of NavComp cards and top your hand back to five cards (this is the only way to get new cards).
- JUMP GATE TRAVEL – Space Jump from where you are to any target planet using the Jump Gate. You must play a card with a corresponding BLUE jump coordinate to the target planet. Discard the card and place your spacecraft on the target planet. Place one Space-Probe chip of your color on the jump gate (including on your first turn jump).
- SHORT FLIGHT (no jump gate/no card needed) – Fly from a planet where you are to a neighboring adjacent target planet.
- SCAN AN UNDEVELOPED PLANET (only if no space-station exists there) – Scan the undeveloped planet where you are for potential Inhabitant Encounters, Resource Collection, and Mission Opportunities for Medals of Bravery. Play a card with a corresponding GREEN scan coordinate of the target planet. Upon scanning that planet, you review all of the "unreserved" planet tiles at that planet and select only one planet tile of your choice from it. You place the chosen tile face down next to the planet and mark it with one of your Space-Probe chips. You are not allowed to look again at your scanned reserved tiles during the game. You collect your "reserved" planet tile as soon as anyone develops the planet with a space-station. If no one develops the planet with a space-station by the end of the game, none of the players collect any planet tiles that were scanned there.
- CONSTRUCT SPACE-STATION & DEVELOP INFRASTRUCTURE on PLANET – To construct a Space-Station and develop the planet's infrastructure, it is a prerequisite that you have scanned the planet beforehand. During the game, only one player per planet can construct a Space-Station and develop a planet's infrastructure. You can construct a Space-Station and develop the planet's infrastructure as follows:
- You play (2) cards with the TWO corresponding ORANGE landing coordinates of the target planet where you are.
Special Notes
- "?" on the cards are jokers (any number you want them to be for that color).
- If you collect a planet tile that produces victory points and the remaining stack are all Space Tiles, you MUST then immediately reveal all Space Tiles at that planet to everyone placing them face up on the planet.
- On the rare occasion when scanning a planet's 8 unseen tiles for the FIRST TIME you find only space tiles, the player gets nothing and displays the tiles face up on the planet.
- If you construct a Space-Station and develop a planet's infrastructure where its Space Tiles are already facing up, you simply do not get any point tile to collect for the development because there aren't any to collect.
- Your collected point tiles are placed in front of you face down. You can look at them anytime.
Game End
The game ends as soon as the following total number of space tiles have been revealed:
- For 2 players – 6 space tiles
- For 3 players – 8 space tiles
- For 4 players – 10 space tiles
- For 5 players – 12 space tiles
The current round is played to the end so that all players have had the same amount of turns. Scanned "reserved" tiles at planets with NO Space-Station are not given to the players. Now the points are counted up.
Scoring
(Note: there are 16 worthless "space tiles".)
JUMP GATE: The player with the most space-probes on the jump gate receives 9 points; the player with the second most receives 6 pts, the third player 3 pts and the fourth player 1 pt. If two or more players have the same number of space probes on the jump gate, these players all receive the corresponding points and the points for the third or possibly fourth highest score are not given to anyone. For example Red has 6 space-probes = 9 pts, Blue has 5 space-probes = 6 pts, and Black/Yellow 4 space-probes tied = 3 pts each, and in this scenario there is no 1 pt award to a fourth highest (further clarifying: only up to 4 pilots get a reward).
SPACE-STATIONS: You receive 3 victory points for each space-station you have constructed in orbit at a planet.
BRAVERY MEDALS (6x): Each medal tile earns the player 3 victory points.
MINERALS (16x): Minerals are available in the colors 4 Red, 4 Purple, 4 Green and 4 Blue. Victory Points are awarded by this calculation: ALL Minerals you collected multiplied by the Highest Total of One Color collected.
ALIENS (10x): Aliens are available in the colors 5 Brown and 5 Blue. Victory Points are awarded by this calculation: ALL Aliens you collected multiplied by the Highest Total of One Color collected.
MATTER (8x): Matter is a rare commodity available in the colors 4 Green and 4 Blue. A pair of matter consisting of 1 green and 1 blue = 7 victory points. An unpaired single color of matter = 2 victory points.
WATER (8x): Water is a rare commodity. Based on the following table, you receive victory points for collected water tiles:
| Water tiles | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 | 2 |
| 2 | 5 |
| 3 | 9 |
| 4 | 14 |
| 5 | 16 |
| 6 | 19 |
| 7 | 23 |
| 8 | 28 |
Winner
The player with the most victory points goes down in history as the bravest and most successful pilot. In the case of a tie, the player who built the most space-stations is the winner. In the case of another tie in space-stations as well, there is more than one winner.
