Components
- 6 Pharaoh tiles (teal back)
- 2 Character tiles
- 6 Royal Corruption tokens (one face shows a value, the other shows the Royal symbol)
- 2 Pirogue tokens
- 2 score markers (one side shows 100, the other shows +150)
Note: the French rulebook does not describe the 2 score markers in its text; the component page only shows their two sides.
Setup
Add the 2 new Pirogue tokens to those of the base game.
Add the 2 new Character tiles and the 6 Pharaoh tiles to the Goods and Character tiles of the base game to form the draw pile.
Then carry out the usual setup, but note: Pharaoh tiles are always placed face down in the Market, without looking at them, exactly like Character tiles.
Also, shuffle the 6 Royal Corruption tokens and place them face down, without looking at them, next to the game board.
Additional Rules
These rules are added to all the rules of the base game.
1 — Take a Pharaoh tile from the Market
When you take 1 Pharaoh tile from the Market:
- Orient the Ankh pawn in the direction of your choice, exactly as for a Character tile.
- Take this Pharaoh tile into your hand, like any other tile taken from the Market.
- Immediately draw 1 Royal Corruption token from those still available next to the board. Look at its value secretly and keep this token face down in front of you, with your Corruption pile.
Important: You draw 1 Royal Corruption token only when you take a Pharaoh tile into your hand with the Take a tile from the Market action. You never receive Royal Corruption when you sell the tile, nor when you take it from your opponent's hand or from a Corruption board through the effect of a Character. Not seen, not taken!
2 — Sell Pharaoh tiles in a set
You may include Pharaoh tiles in a set you sell, in order to receive their normal value of 2 Scarabs at final scoring.
To do so, you must meet 2 conditions:
- one of the two Goods types shown on the Pharaoh tile matches the type of the other tiles you are selling;
- there is no doubt about the type of this set.
Selling a set of a new type.
- Allowed. These 2 sets are allowed: it is clear that each of them can only be of the Wheat type.
- Forbidden. The type is not clearly defined.
- Forbidden. These 2 Pharaoh tiles have no type in common.
Selling into an existing set. This set already exists and its owner wants to extend it.
- Allowed. The Wheat type was already clearly defined by the original set.
- Forbidden. One of the Pharaoh tiles does not match the extended Wheat type.
Corruption count
At the end of the game, when counting Corruption, reveal the Royal Corruption tokens you have in front of you. Each token adds its value to your Corruption total.
Example: Aurore totals 13 Corruption points. Xavier has only 3 Corruption points, so Xavier draws 4 Deben tokens from the bag.
In the rare case where a player must draw more Deben tokens than remain in the bag, they take all the tokens still available and are left wanting.
Character tiles
Royal Advisor (Conseiller royal): Discard 1 Royal Corruption token of your choice from among those in your possession.
Spy (Espionne): Apply the power of a Character tile, any one, whose power was used earlier in this game.
You therefore cannot choose the power of a Character that was sold as part of a set of Goods.
Pirogue tokens
The 2 new Pirogue tokens (one copy of each design, x1) have the following effects:
- Coin design (x1): Your opponent discards 1 Deben token at random from among those in their possession.
- Scarab design (x1): Place this token on one of your already-sold sets of one of the 2 Goods types shown on the token. This token adds 2 Scarabs for the calculation of that set's value at the end of the game. This token may be added to the set you have just sold, the one that allowed you to earn it.
