Setup

This is a scenario for 1 to 5 advanced players. Choose five locomotives at random and add the new "Berglok" as the sixth locomotive. Note: first set aside the "No.1 L.A.D.A.S." and the "Snowplough". They are not used in this scenario.

Place Station 1 (Garmisch) on Llanberis and lay out the other stations in ascending order. Place the indicated number of track cards between them. For the cable car, be careful to turn it to the side that matches the number of players.

Place the new weather strip card on the board. Snow replaces fog. Take the two additional grey discs from the supply and place them on spaces 4 and 8 of the event track.

Cover action space [G] with the Zugspitze Surveyor card [G].

The rules of the base game (Mt. Snowdon) apply with the following changes:

  • There is snow instead of fog.
  • The position of the surveyor matters for building, clearing rubble and laying track. The route does not have to be built "from bottom to top".
  • To reach the Zugspitze summit, the cable car is needed.

Snow

In contrast to the base game, the Zugspitze has snow instead of fog. When it snows, rubble is placed again on spaces that have already been cleared. It works like this:

  • Find the highest space that is fully or partly cleared. This can be a station space without an ownership marker, or a track card (whether or not it has an ownership marker).
  • Starting at this space and then going downhill (in stations from right to left), it snows on as many spaces as the current work rate indicates.
  • On each space where it snows, rubble is placed:
    • 2 rubble if at least 2 rubble are missing from the printed starting amount;
    • 1 rubble if exactly 1 rubble is missing from the printed starting amount;
    • no rubble if it is a station space with an ownership marker. These spaces still count toward the number of spaces.

Snow is also triggered when a snow event happens (on one of the two grey discs on the event track).

The Surveyor

The action [G] lets you move your surveyor one or two stations up or down.

In this scenario you may clear rubble, lay track and build only depending on the position of your surveyor.

  • Clearing rubble: You may take rubble from the station itself and then from the track cards in one direction, up to the next station at most.
  • Laying track: You may lay track from the station in one direction, up to the next station at most.
  • Building: You may build at the station where your surveyor stands, and also at the next station in either direction, provided the track to it has been cleared of rubble.

For example, if the surveyor is at Eibsee, you cannot clear rubble, lay track or build further than Grainau and Riffelriss.

In one turn you must always clear rubble or lay track in one direction. Your worker cannot change direction in the middle of the work.

The Cable Car

The spaces on this station are, so to speak, additional stations for the surveyor, on which it can travel further. For this you need the action [G]. Moving on to the next station on the cable car costs the player 2 rubble (these go back to the supply).

When a player moves further up from space 3, they place their surveyor on a free circle of the Zugspitze summit card, to score 16, 11 or 7 points at the end of the game. Up to three surveyors may move onto the 7-point space.

While a surveyor is in the cable car, its player can still build, clear rubble or lay track up to Riffelriss.

Miscellaneous

Whoever builds a coal store receives, once, the third labourer from the Pub for the next round. At the end of that round the labourer goes back to the Pub.

Whenever a player builds in Grainau or Riffelriss, they take one of the Contract cards afterwards.

The Berglok gives a bonus of +1 to clearing work, which rises to +2 if it snows in that round.

Gap: the Berglok's own card text is not printed in this booklet, so the rule above is the only Berglok rule available from this source (see the Table of Contents note).

End of Game

As in the base game, the game ends when track has been laid on all track cards. If a player lays the last track, the round is played to completion. If the last track is laid by an event, all players get one more turn.
