In what order are enemy cards laid out, and when does combat start?

Shuffle the enemy cards named by the storybook and lay them out in the shuffled order. Combat begins when the section or event card calling for it is read, so equip weapons and cards beforehand. Food can be eaten until you look at the enemy cards.
