Does Bold Attempt need to be equipped, and does Gear's redraw work with all redraw-fate effects?

Bold Attempt must be equipped; its "discard this card" text is a mistake for "discard this equipped card". Gear (including the Primeval Peril ship gear) lets you redraw fate and keep the better draw; its command stays on the card until a ship action clears it.
