How to Play (2-4 Players)
Shiba Goten is a puzzle game in which players attempt to complete a Hina display of 4 tiers (2, 3, 4, and 5 seats) with 14 spaces in total. Collect Doll Cards from the shared market and arrange them beautifully on your Hina Display Mat.
Each round proceeds as follows:
- Prepare the shared market: from either draw pile of Doll Cards, place [number of players + 1] cards face-up between the 2 draw piles as shown in the diagram below. Include the 2 top cards from the draw piles to complete the market. (Example: for a 3 player game, the game starts with 4 face-up cards + 2 cards from the draw piles.)
- Select collecting condition: the Decreer selects the condition for collecting Doll Cards (by color or by role), and places the Decree Chip on the table with the corresponding side face-up where all players can see it.
- Collect by Color: You must collect all Doll Cards of the same color that are present in the market. Red/Yellow/Blue/Green/Purple
- Collect by Role: You must collect all Doll Cards of the same role that are present in the market. Dairi/Hina/Kanjo/Okazari/Hayashi
- Collecting Doll Cards: starting with the player to the Decreer's left, proceed in clockwise order choosing any 1 set of Doll Cards that matches the collecting condition for that round. Collect all Doll Cards that match the chosen set, and place them on your Hina Display Mat according to the following [Display Arrangement Rules]. After all players have placed their cards, remove any remaining Doll Cards in the market by putting them in a pile to the side. (Do not remove the cards from the draw piles.)
- Example: When the Decreer selects "Collect by Color", 1st player (to the Decreer's left) takes green × 2; 2nd player takes red × 3; 3rd player (Decreer) takes yellow × 2. The remaining cards are removed.
- Pass the Decree Chip to the player to the left, then begin a new round from step 1.
Display Arrangement Rules
Arrange the collected Doll Cards in the following manner. You may discard any number of unwanted cards, keep these in a pile in front of you for later scoring.
- A. Place in the same tier as its role
- B. Place in a different tier than its role
- C. Covering Placement (1 time per round)
- You can place a Doll Card anywhere, but once a card is placed it cannot be moved.
- Covering Placement is only allowed 1 time per space. Cards placed in the same round cannot be covered.
- If the condition for a Sub-Objective Card is met after placement, you will acquire it. You are limited to 1 Sub-Objective Card per round. (Once a Sub-Objective Card has been acquired, it is kept even if Covering Placement changes the state of the board.)
End of the Game
The game is played by repeating the round steps. When any 1 player fills all 14 spaces on the Hina Display Mat, that player receives the red "First Completion" Sub-Objective Card. The other players then play 1 additional round to finish the game. Alternatively, the game ends when the draw piles run out of cards.
Objective Cards
Sub-Objective Cards are acquired during the game, immediately, by the 1st player to achieve the objective. The 3 cards outlined in red are always used.
- 3 black Shibas
- 5 types of Hayashi
- 3 of the same type of Kanjo
- Pair of Okazari in 2 different colors
- Same color of Dairi and Hina
- First Completion (red; always used)
Primary Objective Cards are judged and acquired at the end of the game. Multiple Primary Objectives may be acquired and shared with other players. Except for 10, all other objectives are achievable even if 14 cards are not placed. Placement is OK anywhere.

Scoring
Score your Hina display when you think it is complete. Aim for the highest score!
① Hina Display points:
- For each tier, count the number of spaces that has the same role as the mat.
- Matches role placement: 1 point per space.
- All spaces in a tier match role placement: 2 points per space.
- Empty space / different role placement: 0 points.
- Discarded cards: −1 point each.
Example (Hina Display points):
- Tier 1: Dairi and Hina. Tier matches × 2. *each space 2 points × 2 = 4 points.
- Tier 2: Three Kanjo. 2 matches, 1 different. *1 point × 2 = 2 points.
- Tier 3: Okazari. Only 3 cards match. *1 point × 3 = 3 points.
- Tier 4: Five Hayashi. Tier matches × 5. *each space 2 points × 5 = 10 points. Discard × 1 = −1 point.
② Sub-Objective Cards: acquired during the game.
③ Primary Objective Cards: acquired and scored at the end of the game.
- If the total score is tied, the person with fewer placed Doll Cards wins.
- The player with the highest total score across the 3 categories is the winner.
