Game Description

Components: 37 cards. Players: 2-8. Age: 8+. Time: 60 min.

"Elementary! For Kids" is a cooperative detective game in which you must solve a crime together using the information on the cards. Analyze the information you receive, reveal the cards you need and discard those that, in your opinion, have nothing to do with the case.

Do not look at the cards; read the rules first!

Goal of the Game

Reconstruct the picture of the crime.

Setup

Set aside the cards with a red frame and do not look at them until the end of the game.

  • Read the urgent news from the newspaper at the bottom of page 2 (the newspaper text above).
  • Take the cards out of the wrapping and turn the deck over so that the card with the green frame ends up at the bottom.
  • Pull out the card with the green frame from the bottom (it will immediately be visible, side 01), place it in the centre of the table and shuffle the remaining cards without looking at them.
  • Deal 3 cards to each player.
  • Place the remaining cards in a face-down pile in the centre of the table.
  • Choose the first player.

Gameplay

Players take turns playing cards: either face up in the centre of the table, if they consider them important, or face down into a discard pile, if the information seems to them unimportant.

On their turn, each player performs one of the following actions:

A) REVEALS INFORMATION: Choose a card from your hand and place it on the table so that all players can read what is written on it. We recommend reading all the information from the card aloud at this moment. Some hints are absolutely necessary for solving the crime.

B) DISCARDS A CARD: Choose a card from your hand and place it face down on the discard pile. You may not share the information from this card until all the other cards have been played. At the end of the game, each discarded card brings you 1 additional point.

IMPORTANT: At the end of the game, at least 10 cards must be lying on the table face up.

At the end of your turn, draw a card if the deck is not yet empty.

To solve the case, it is very important to discuss the available information. Constantly check the revealed hints and reread what is written on them.

You may not discuss information from the cards in your hand, but you may say the underlined words and the text in the frame with a paper clip.

Building a Version of Events

When all hints have been revealed or sent to the discard, players discuss the information they have and together build a version of what happened.

At this stage you may freely discuss information from discarded cards, if you remember it.

Checking

Having settled on a version of events, move on to the answers to the Questions.

Take card "A" with the red frame and turn over the cards with a red frame one by one, answering the Questions on sides "B", "V", "G", "D".

After you have answered all the Questions, read on sides "E" and "Zh" what actually happened.

Check your answers on side "Z" with the point count. Each correct answer brings 2 points. Each discarded card brings 1 additional point.

Count your points, and on side "I" you will find out whether you coped with a task at the level of Sherlock Holmes or whether you need more training in solving crimes.
