Table of Contents
Components
- 120 cards
- 40 Sequence chips (20 red, 20 blue)
Object of the Game
Win by collecting 5 Sequence chips! However, you must make the 5 chips including at least 2 red chips and at least 2 blue chips.
A sequence is a pile of cards of the same colour, stacked in order from 1 to 5.
Setup
-
Shuffle the cards and deal 5 cards to each player. Keep your cards hidden from the other players. Place the remaining cards in a draw pile in the centre of the table.
Important: When playing with 2 players, remove the following special cards: all Reverse cards, 1 Wait! card, 2 Chip Steal cards, 1 Card Steal card and 1 Jump card.
-
Make room on both sides of the draw pile for 4 imaginary sequence spaces. One side is divided into 2 spaces for red sequences, and the other side into 2 spaces for blue sequences.
The printed 2-player setup example shows the draw pile in the centre of a row of five marked spaces, with the two outer spaces on each side serving as the sequence spaces. Above the centre is a space for used yellow special cards. Each player has a personal discard space at their corner of the table, and each player's hand is placed fanned out at the outer bottom corners.
-
Gather the red and blue Sequence chips and place them in one pile on one side of the table.
How to Play
Decide the first player by rock-paper-scissors. Play proceeds clockwise, starting with the first player.
1. Using Cards
- Use as many cards from your hand as you want. You do not have to use even one card.
- To make a new sequence, you must use a 1 or a Wild card. Only 4 sequences (2 of each colour) can be in progress at the same time.
- To use a card on an existing sequence, the card must be the same colour as that sequence's pile, and it must be the number that is 1 higher than the top card of the pile. You may use consecutive numbers in order during your turn, and you may complete the sequence right away.
- If there are 2 sequence piles of the same colour, you cannot start a new sequence of that colour until one of those piles is complete.
- If you have used all 5 cards in your hand, immediately draw 5 new cards and continue your turn. You may do this several times in one turn. (This does not apply when the last card you discard leaves no cards in your hand.)
- When you use cards, you may use not only the cards in your hand but also the top card of your personal discard pile.
2. Ending Your Turn
- When you can no longer use cards, or do not want to, discard 1 card from your hand "in front of yourself." When you discard on a later turn, you must stack that card on top of the card you discarded on your previous turn, so that your discards form one pile. A card must be discarded face up.
- Draw new cards from the draw pile to refill your hand to 5 cards, and end your turn.
Completing a Sequence
When cards of the same colour are placed in order 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, the sequence is complete. The player who completed the sequence receives 1 chip of that colour. Gather the cards of the completed sequence and set them aside separately.
If the draw pile in the centre of the table runs out, shuffle the set-aside cards together to form a new draw pile. Take care not to include the yellow special cards when you do this!
Special Cards
Except for Wait!, special cards may be used only on your own turn. A special card is returned to the game box as soon as it is used and is not used again.
- Jump (x3): Skips the next player's turn.
- Reverse (x3): Reverses the direction of play.
- Wild - Blue (x7): Used as any desired blue number.
- Wild - Red (x7): Used as any desired red number.
- Card Steal (x3): Take 1 card from among the cards another player is holding, or 1 card from among the top cards of the discard piles.
- Chip Steal (x4): Take 1 of the chips another player has collected. However, you cannot use Chip Steal to end the game and win.
- Wait! (x3): Can be used at the moment someone completes a sequence. If you use a Wait! card, the player who completed the sequence does not receive a chip. The completed sequence is set aside separately, as usual.
End of Game
If one player has collected a total of 5 or more Sequence chips, including at least 2 red chips and at least 2 blue chips, the game ends immediately and that player wins.
Important:
- Even if you have collected 5 or more chips in total, you cannot win unless you have at least 2 red chips and at least 2 blue chips.
- If you use the top card of your own discard pile, the card beneath it is revealed immediately. If possible, you may continue using cards from your discard pile in this way.
- At the end of your own turn, you must discard 1 card.
