Goal
Make up the best Schmovie titles to collect the most trophies!
Components
- 85 "What?" cards
- 85 "Who?" cards
- 1 genre die
- 5 erasable title boards
- 5 erasable markers
- 19 trophies and 19 trophy bases
- 1 rulebook
Setup
- Decide whether to play individually, as teams, or as a mix of both. Up to 6 teams or individuals can compete.
- Place the "What?" deck and the "Who?" deck in the center of the table, with the "What?" deck on the left.
- Assemble the Schmovie trophies by fitting each trophy into its base.
- The player who most recently saw a movie becomes the Schmovie Producer.
- The Schmovie Producer hands each other player or team a title board and some erasable markers.
- Players must have a tissue, a napkin, a tuxedo sleeve, or a similar item to easily erase the title board each round.
How to Play
-
The Schmovie Producer rolls the genre die to determine the genre of the movie to be made this round. The die faces show: SCI-FI, Drama, Horror, Action, Romantic Comedy, and Producer's Choice (*).
-
The Schmovie Producer flips over one "What?" card and one "Who?" card. These two become the subject of this movie. Among the "Who?" cards, 5 are marked with a "?" and can be chosen by the Producer. If one of those is drawn, the Schmovie Producer may use any character they like.
-
The Schmovie Producer reads the genre, the "What?" card and the "Who?" card aloud. For example: a Drama, with "What?" card "Smelly" and "Who?" card "Student". The example caption reads: "My Schmovie is a drama starring a smelly student!"
-
Each player or team writes a Schmovie title on their title board with their erasable marker, using the genre and cards for inspiration. Each player or team may use only one title. The Schmovie Producer must not be able to see these titles. A Schmovie title can be purely original or a parody of a real movie.
If you are stuck, you may use the Schmovie Starter on the back of the title board. Just fill in the blanks using the "What?" and "Who?" cards.
The example titles above could look like this:
- Byeonsa Builche (Korean-language example title, transliterated)
- Society of the Dead Sense of Smell
- The Smell Strikes Back
How to Play, Continued
- Players turn their title boards face down and submit them to the Schmovie Producer.
- The Schmovie Producer shuffles the title boards without looking at them, reads them aloud, and then places them face up on the table.
- The Schmovie Producer chooses the title they like best and takes a trophy. If two or more teams have the same title chosen, the Schmovie Producer rolls the genre die again and draws 2 cards to set a new subject. Only the teams or players who wrote the title that was chosen first compete with each other, and the winner takes 1 trophy.
Note: Choosing a title is up to the Schmovie Producer's discretion.
Note: This game has no timer. Play freely and wait until the last writer has finished writing.
There are no other rules for choosing the winning title. A title does not have to follow the genre or the two cards, and typos do not matter. As long as the Schmovie Producer likes a title most, that title wins this round.
Producer's Choice
If the genre die shows Producer's Choice (*), the Schmovie Producer may choose any film genre, from animation to Westerns, including adult films. Pick one, or just make one up!
Winning
The first player to collect 4 trophies wins!

Schmovie Tips!!!
-
Schmovie titles can be purely made up or parodies of real movies. They can be a single word or a nonsensical sentence! Just write something!
-
Use the Schmovie Starter on the back of the title board. Just fill in the blanks with the subject words given.
-
Think of real movies in that genre. Then change one or two words related to the "What?" or "Who?" card.
-
If it is hard to match the genre or the "What?" and "Who?" cards, it is fine to fulfill only 2 of the 3. If it is a truly special answer, you can win by fulfilling only 1 of the 3.
Still stuck?
-
Really, write anything. Sometimes a title you do not like yourself may be a hilarious find for others!
