Setup and Placement

Print and cut out the card.

During setup, set the promo card aside. Do not shuffle the promo into your deck.

When the Pier card (#24) is revealed during play, put the promo card on top of the deck. This means in every game, the Pier will be revealed before the promo card.

Note: If you sleeve your cards, feel free to sleeve this promo card and shuffle it into the deck during setup.

The Card Face

The card is illustrated with a pirate ship and a rowboat on a beach, with a red X marked on the sand. Its three pictogram lines, as printed:

  • Top left: a red -1 followed by the multi-coloured person icon.
  • Top right: 2 sand dollars : 1 sandcastle icon.
  • Bottom: 1 multi-coloured person icon = 4 sand dollars, placed beside the X.

The small code printed in the bottom-left corner ("P1") is a print identifier and is not part of the rules.

Symbol Notes

These notes explain how the printed symbols are read. They add no rules beyond the card and the base rulebook.

  • Multi-coloured person icon. The base rulebook uses the multi-coloured person symbol for a person of any type (local, tourist, or VIP). This card uses the same icon for its person.
  • Top left, -1 person. The card shows a minus one person beneath a pirate ship. The card itself does not spell out the effect. The publisher's description on BoardGameGeek says the pirates take away one of your residents or tourists.
  • Top right, 2 sand dollars : 1 sandcastle. The base rulebook's Unspent Sand Dollars section uses the same "sand dollars : points" form ("2 sand dollars: 1 point"). This transcription reads the sandcastle as the point value, following that base example. The card does not name the sandcastle icon, so this reading is a judgment call rather than printed text.
  • Bottom, 1 person = 4 sand dollars. The card shows one person equals four sand dollars, placed at the X. The publisher's description on BoardGameGeek says that getting someone to where X marks the spot yields a treasure trove of sand dollars, the currency of the game.
