Can I choose the order of the effects and bonuses I get during one action?
Several players agree; the rulebook says engineer advancements are applied in the order you choose.

Yes. Effects on the space and bonuses triggered during it go into a pool you can resolve in any order, as long as the whole action ends up completed. You cannot save them for a later turn.
