Goal
So what's the goal of Room Party: The Game?
Build your own amazing room party, all the while sabotaging other players' parties! Collect Awesome Points, and when the deck runs out, whoever has the most points wins!
The Core Deck includes 160 cards. (The FurCon Expansion adds 55.)
To play, you just need a couple friends and a little space.
How To Play
The space in front of each player represents their Party, while the space in the middle represents the Hotel Lobby.
Select who's going first. This can either be at random, whoever dealt, who has the best hair--whatever works!
Start by shuffling the deck.
Deal 5 cards to each player.
Place the rest of the deck, face down, in the middle between everyone. Each turn, a player has the option of playing up to 3 cards OR discarding up to 3.
There are four types of cards: Event, Person, Item, and Interrupt. Some have special conditions or rules which are noted on the card.
To play a card, you can either place it face up in front of you at your own Party, or in front of another player to play it on their Party. (Generally, you'll want to play positive cards at your Party, and negative ones on your friends' Parties; However, sometimes it can be strategic to change things up.)
At the end of each player's turn, draw from the deck to fill your hand up to 5 cards.
Room Party Builds A Story Every Time You Play
For instance, drop the Neckbeard in someone's party, play the Awkward Boner on him, followed by Uncomfortable Silence, and you've just messed up their party (and made for a disturbing mental image).
How To Win
After each turn, draw back up to 5 cards until the deck is exhausted, after which point players continue to play cards until they run out, or (rarely) they are stuck with cards they just can't play. After that, everyone counts how many positive Awesome Points they have after subtracting the negative. Whoever has the most wins!
You can then be officially declared as the Master of Hosting Ridiculously Awesome Room Parties (which looks great on a resume)!
Social & Attaching Cards
Some cards have either the Social Icon (two figures and a speech balloon in a blue circle) or the Attaching Icon (a magnet and a lightning bolt in a red circle).
The Social Icon means that when the card is played, one person from the Lobby (chosen by the person who played the card) is drawn to whatever party the card was added to. If there's no one in the Lobby, the Social aspect is moot.
The Attach Icon means that the card must be played on top of a Person or Item and then stays with that card for the duration of the game unless removed or broken by another card.
Alternative Quick Play
Maybe you're in a hurry, or you or your friends are just too inebriated to think a lot (Hey, it's a party after all!)
If so, here are some alternative rules to play by:
- Deal 6 cards to each player. Draw back up to 6 at the end of each turn.
- Play up to 4 cards per turn OR discard up to 3.
- Instead of placing cards in the Lobby, just discard them.
- Ignore the Social Icon rules during game play.
House Rules
We encourage you and your friends to come up with your own house rules! For instance, take a shot (of soda, for you folks under 21) for every time an Item: Booze gets played.
If you have a great House Rule, submit it to our website, and we might put it up on our House Rules section!
