Build
Aim of the game
Be the first to rebuild a robot with all the same coloured parts and win the trophy!
Setting up the game
Before you start playing, build the game using the LEGO® building instructions provided in the set. Building the game teaches you more about the pieces and how you can use them. This makes it easier to rebuild or change the rules of your game later on.
Build the LEGO Dice using the coloured sides shown below: green, blue, red, white, black, and a mixed side showing a 2×2 of blue, green, white and red. The set includes a tool to help you take tiles off the LEGO Dice.
Dismantle the robots into their six coloured parts and place them in the Scrapheap in the centre of the table. Place the trophy to the side of the Scrapheap.
Starting with the youngest player, each player selects a robot body from the Scrapheap.
Play
Playing the game
The youngest player rolls the LEGO® Dice first. Play then continues clockwise.
Each turn a player rolls the dice and does one of the following:
Coloured parts
Take one coloured part that matches the colour rolled on the LEGO Dice.
You must take the coloured part from the Scrapheap if you can. If there are no coloured parts on the Scrapheap that match the colour on the LEGO Dice, take a matching coloured part from a player of your choice.
You can build this coloured part, matching colour or not, onto your robot body, or place it in your own pile.
Free choice
Take any coloured part you want from the Scrapheap. You can take different colours during the game, but you need all six parts of the same colour to win.
If the Scrapheap is empty, you must RETURN one of your coloured parts to the Scrapheap.
Exchange parts
Swap one of your coloured parts with another player of your choice OR with one coloured part from the Scrapheap. You decide which coloured parts to exchange.
Steal
Steal one coloured part from another player of your choice OR take one coloured part from the Scrapheap. You decide which coloured part to steal.
Winning the game
The first player to build a complete robot with all the same coloured parts wins the game and the trophy, and becomes the Robo Champ!
Note that the winning robot might not be the same colour as the coloured robot body the player started with.
Change
Your game – your rules
The LEGO® Dice gives you the freedom to change the game and make it your own. You can change the playing area, the pieces and even the rules. Every little change makes it more and more YOUR game.
The secret to changing a game is to change only one thing at a time. That way, you can see if the change makes the game more fun. If it does, keep it and then try another.
Changing a game is always more fun when done together. That way everyone knows the rules and knows what is being changed. Remember to make sure everyone playing is aware of any new rules BEFORE you start playing.
Now that you know how to play the game using our rules, try one of the following suggestions to change the game, and then try to make a change of your own.
- Blind Steal
Steal one coloured part from each player, but with your eyes shut. The other players cannot hide their coloured parts.
- Total swap
Swap ALL of your coloured parts with another player of your choice.
- 4-player
Build a white robot from your own LEGO collection and make it a 4-player game. Take one white coloured part from the Scrapheap after rolling white if you can OR from another player if there are none on the Scrapheap.
Invent and share your own rules
Challenge yourself, and see which new rules you can create.
If they work, upload your "house rules" of the game to games.LEGO.co.uk and share them with others. Or check out what others have created and try playing the game using their house rules.
