Gem Maps
After playing a few games, if you want an extra level of strategy, use these maps.
Each player receives a map, which they keep next to their own cards. Each map has two sides: everyone uses the same side, and orients the map in the same direction as the cards.
During the game, each time you get a new card, you may immediately place markers on your map in the same configuration as the card you just took. You may perform this extra move only once per card, and only immediately after taking the new card (but you do not need to turn the card face down for this). The placement rules are the same as those for the map.
You cannot use the three starting cards to place markers on the map.
You can instead use artifact abilities, and you can also pay to place markers in the dashed squares.
At the end of the game, you gain extra points for each complete gem on your map. A gem is complete when every square it touches is occupied by a marker. Green gems are worth 1 point, blue gems 4 points, and red gems 7 points. Only complete gems count. Incomplete gems, that is gems covered only in part, are worth nothing.
Example. On this map a green gem is complete, and is worth 1 point. Of the red gem, only two squares out of nine are covered, so it is worth 0 points.
