Setup

Besides the game board, you need three six-sided dice and a pen.

Round Sequence

At the start of each round, you roll the three dice. You pick one of these dice to move on the game board. The field where you end your movement scores points at the end of the game. The other two dice are used to permanently cross out a field on the grid. If, after a die roll, you can no longer move legally, the game is over.

Step 1 - Roll

Roll the three dice.

Step 2 - Cross Out a Field

Set aside two of the rolled dice and work out the possible coordinates that these two die values give. If you chose two different numbers, you get two possible fields, one of which you must now permanently cross out. Do this by marking the field with an X.

If you choose two identical numbers in this step, there is only one coordinate.

For example: you rolled 2, 4, and 5, and you now choose the 2 and the 4. This gives you the two possible fields "2,4" or "4,2". You must now cross out one of these two fields.

Important: You MUST cross out a field every round. If, after rolling, you find that there is no coordinate left among the three rolled numbers that you can cross out, you must roll again! If this happens three times in a row, the game is over!

Step 3 - Cross Out the Starting Field (skipped in round 1!)

The field where you start is now crossed out, and like the fields from Step 2, it is permanently marked. This field now has both an X and a circle around the number.

This step is skipped in the very first round of the game, since you effectively start outside the grid.

Step 4 - Move

The die that is now left over is used for movement.

The first step in the game must land on a 30.

As mentioned in Step 3, you start outside the grid and may only enter the grid via a 30.

In every following round, you continue moving field by field, orthogonally, from your starting field, until you have completed the full number of steps shown on the die. You may not let movement points go to waste. You may not enter the same field more than once within a round, and while moving you may not move outside the grid. However, you are allowed to change direction during the movement - you don't have to move all the fields in one direction. Circle the number in the field where you end your movement. This scores you points at the end of the game.

Important: Fields with an X and/or a circle around the number may no longer be entered during movement! If, in this step, you find that you can no longer move legally, the game ends!

After that, you begin a new round at Step 1.

End of the Game

The game can end in two ways:

  • You failed, three times in a row during Step 2, to roll a coordinate you could use to cross out a field.

or

  • You cannot carry out your movement legally.

When one of these two cases occurs, add up the values of all fields that have both an X and a circle around the number. The total is your score.

If you have now reached 300 or more points, you win Road to 300!

Important Note

It is important that a field is crossed out first, and only then does the movement happen. Sometimes, while thinking ahead, you already mark a target field with a circle in your mind and then cross out a field that was used along the way. This is not allowed!

Game Board

The game board is a 6x6 grid. Columns and rows are numbered 1 to 6; a die pair gives a column/row coordinate. Each field carries a point value, forming a symmetric pattern that is highest at the corners and lowest in the center:

Col 1Col 2Col 3Col 4Col 5Col 6
Row 1302520202530
Row 2251510101525
Row 32010551020
Row 42010551020
Row 5251510101525
Row 6302520202530

Since the first move must land on a 30, and only the four corner fields (1,1 / 1,6 / 6,1 / 6,6) carry a 30, the game always begins by entering the grid at one of those four corners.
