Object

Watch out for the rhino's rampage as you use the die to move your birds along the path. If you are the first player to safely land all 3 of your colored bird movers on the rhino's back, you win!

Setup

  • Snap the rhino straight down onto the ground platform as shown.
  • Snap the tail in place on the left side of the rhino as shown.

Component labels on the sheet: Rhino, Rhino's Back Spaces, Rhino's Tail Lever, Leafy Safe Space, Start Space, Path Direction, Ground Platform, Ground Holder, Bird Movers, Die.

Let's Play

  • Each player takes 3 matching-color bird movers. Set them near the ground platform, but NOT on the path.
  • The player who makes the craziest or mightiest roar goes first, and play moves clockwise (to your left).
  • On your turn, roll the die. If you roll a number, you get to move one of your birds along the path. If you roll the Free Bird icon or the Rhino Rampage icon, see the corresponding section.

Moving Along the Path

  • When you roll a number, move ANY of your available birds that number of spaces along the path. You can have all 3 of your birds on the path at once, but you can only move ONE bird per turn.
  • If the bird you select is not yet on the path, begin at the start space indicated by the arrow and count that space as "1." The arrow also indicates the direction of the path, which is from the rhino's head toward his tail.
  • As you move your bird, do not skip spaces. If you land on a space where another bird is already perched, stack your bird on top of the other bird's head!
  • If any of your birds have one or more birds perched on its head, that bird is trapped. You cannot move that bird until it has been set free, either by the top bird(s) moving away or by rolling the Free Bird icon (see "Rolling the Free Bird Icon").
  • If you roll the Free Bird icon but none of your birds are trapped, you may move one of your bird movers 1 space.
  • If you land on the Leafy Safe Space, you are safe from the rhino's earth-shaking stomp and chomp! As long as you are perched there, you will not be launched off.
  • When one of your birds reaches the rhino's back, perch it on any of the 4 spaces (or, if you already have a bird on his back, stack it on top of your other bird). You do not need an exact roll to hop up onto his back.
  • Remember, any bird that is on the Leafy Safe Space or on the rhino's back is safe from being launched when the rhino stomps and chomps. If any should happen to fall off by accident, put them back on their space.
  • Players continue taking turns, until one player has all 3 bird movers on the rhino's back.

Rolling the Rhino Rampage Icon

If you roll the Rhino Rampage icon on the die, you have annoyed the rhino!

  1. Place a finger or two on the ground holder to keep it from shaking too much, and then push down on the rhino's tail ONCE to activate his movement. His mouth will open and his mighty foot will stomp... shaking the ground and launching birds off the spaces.
  2. Any birds that are knocked off their spaces have to start all over! Place them off the path to await the next turn that will allow them to hop back on.

Rolling the Free Bird Icon

When you roll the Free Bird icon on the die, one of your trapped birds is now free and you can move it ahead 1 space. Separate it from the bird(s) on top of it, but put all other birds back on the space in the same stacking order they were in.

If you roll the Free Bird icon and you do not have any trapped birds, you can move any of your birds 1 space.

Winning

When you have all 3 of your matching-color birds on the rhino's back, you win! Feel free to whistle or sing a little song... Chirp! Chirp!

Beginning or Younger Play

For a simpler game, follow the basic rules but with these exceptions:

  • Each player can only have one bird on the path at a time. Once one bird is safely on the rhino's back, you can move another bird onto the path on your next turn.
  • Stacked birds are not trapped. If it's your turn but your bird is perched under another bird, you remain free to move the number you roll. Remember to replace any movers that were already on the space.
  • Anytime you roll the Free Bird icon, move 1 space.
