Modules
This expansion is split into three separate modules:
- A. Frontier deck cards: these cards can be shuffled into the Frontier deck you already have from the expansion Revolver 1-3: Vengeance on the Frontier.
- B. Building your own deck: the new cards let both players build their own decks and explore new combat tactics.
- C. Rockslide: an interesting new Ambush card.
Module A: Frontier Deck Cards
Shuffle these cards into the Frontier deck you already have from Revolver 1-3: Vengeance on the Frontier.
Module B: Building Your Own Deck
The decks of the base game "Revolver" are already built and ready to play. However, as you gain game experience, you may want to build a deck that better suits your own style of play. Use the new cards to lengthen the game and get even more enjoyment out of "Revolver".
Deck-Building Rules
A. Each custom deck must consist of 62 cards. Take the deck from the base game, remove the cards you do not need, and replace them with equivalent cards from this (or another) expansion and/or promo cards.
B. Unique gunslinger cards may not be replaced.
C. You must replace an "action" card with another "action" card, a "character" card with another "character" card, and a "firepower" card with another "firepower" card. The cost of a card, its firepower and other icons are not taken into account when replacing cards.
D. Location cards and prairie cards may be used to replace any base-game card except the unique gunslinger cards.
E. Your deck may not contain more than one copy of each unique card.
Module C: Rockslide!
Setup
When preparing the game, shuffle this card into the Ambush mini-deck you already have. With Rockslide there will be eight cards. Without looking, return two random cards from this deck to the box. Choose one of the remaining cards and place it face down at each location, including the San Manzanillo Prison.
Clarification: the Rockslide card cannot make you replay a battle at the San Manzanillo Prison (the Russian clarification misspells the name "San Manzallino"; the spelling used elsewhere in this rulebook is used here) – you must move the turn marker onto the last space of the previous location.
Reminder: the Rockslide card may not be placed at the Bank at Repentance Springs or at the San Manzanillo Prison.
New Icons
Some of the new cards carry new icons:
- Noose: If one of your cards is destroyed or killed in battle, you must also discard all cards with the noose icon that are in the same location.
Example: McReady has three cards at the Rattlesnake Creek location: a lawman card (no English name is printed for it on the sheet), "Wagon full of Pilgrims" and "Charlie Withers". Colti plays a card that kills "Charlie Withers". After "Charlie Withers" is placed in the discard pile, McReady checks whether any other card in that location carries the noose icon. "Wagon full of Pilgrims" does, so McReady must discard it. The lawman card stays in play.
Note: the example's first card is named as in the Russian rules because the English name is not printed on the sheet.
- Graveyard: Cards with this icon have an additional effect that triggers only when the card is placed in the discard pile. During your turn you may shuffle a card with this icon back into your deck.
Reminder: you may use this ability during any of your turns, after the card has been placed in the discard pile.
Example: Colti's player has just played "The Whitebait Railroad Company" to remove McReady's location card "Ruined church in El Rey" (a translation of the Russian title; the English name is not printed) from Whiskey Canyon. He then places the played card in the discard pile. Later in the same turn he decides to use the graveyard icon on "The Whitebait Railroad Company" and shuffles that card back into his deck.
- Red poker chips: When interacting with other cards, these poker chips may be counted both as white poker chips and as black poker chips.
Clarification: with the "Saddlebags" card, you can take back only your own cards that carry red poker chips.
FAQ
Q1: McReady played the Valley of Gwangi card between the locations The Bank at Repentance Springs and Whiskey Canyon. When Colti reached Whiskey Canyon, McReady turned over the Rockslide ambush card. Where does the game continue? A1: At the Valley of Gwangi location.
Q2: May McReady play the Valley of Gwangi location card between Hawk's Nest and the San Manzanillo Prison? A2: Yes. McReady may place his card between any two locations.
Q3: If Colti does not enter the Prison location, and the Valley of Gwangi card lies somewhere between Hawk's Nest and Rattlesnake Creek, does he still have to cross it? A3: Yes.
Card List
The effect column reads from the Russian card list (the English column supplies the card names). Icons were read from the page images and are kept as printed, named by their appearance. See the icon key below.
Icon key (this transcription's names; the sheet does not define most icons):
- [hand icon]: the come-into-play effect, as on the base game's firepower cards. It marks the start of a card's effect when it is played.
- [gravestone icon]: a gang member killed; "kill two [gravestone icon]" means kill two gang members.
- [card icon marked N]: N cards. As a cost it is paid by discarding that many other cards from your hand, as in the base game. A card icon with a number may also appear as an exchange rate (see Shirlene and Linda Sue).
- [white +1 token]: a firepower token that increases firepower by one, as in the base game's power tokens.
- [black poker chip]: a black poker chip card (a gang firepower card). [black +1 token]: a black token with +1.
- [red poker chip marked N]: a red poker chip with value N (see New Icons).
- [crosshair token]: the crosshair token from this expansion's components.
- [smoke signal token] and [fever token]: the tokens named in this expansion's components.
- [silver coin]: a silver dollar coin. The coin is not in this expansion's components and is taken to be the silver dollar from earlier expansions.
- [bullet wound token]: the dark red round token. It is not named on the sheet; the identification is inferred from the card text (Gertrude Spacks, Ancestral Spirit Guide) and from the bullet wound token of Revolver 1-2.
- [hat icon marked N]: the cowboy-hat icon used for the base game's true grit tokens, shown with a number. The sheet does not define this use and it is kept as printed.
Colonel McReady's Deck Cards
| English name | Effect |
|---|---|
| Chief Ironcoat | Place a [white +1 token] on each card in play whose name contains "Apache". |
| "I have moral superiority over you!" | Look at your opponent's hand. Or cancel any card just played that threatens a card whose name contains "Pinkerton". |
| Fort Moses | Place two [white +1 token] on this card. You may remove one [white +1 token] to destroy one [black poker chip] in the current location. Placing this card at Hawk's Nest costs [card icon marked 0]. |
| Deputy US Marshal (two copies) | You may remove a [hat icon marked 1] instead of paying [card icon marked 1] when placing a card in a location where the "Deputy US Marshal" card lies. |
| Saggory Boyd – US Marshal | [hand icon] You may place one [white +1 token] on this card. If you do, place the [crosshair token] on this card and destroy it in your next "Draw two cards" phase. |
| Moonlight and Safecracker Burke | [hand icon] Get one [silver coin]. |
| Doctor Terminus and his Amazing Dancing Bear | [hand icon] You may remove one prairie card from the game. |
| Valley of Gwangi | Place this card between two locations. This card counts as a separate location that must be crossed. If McReady wins the Attack phase, kill two [gravestone icon]. |
Colti's Gang Cards
| English name | Effect |
|---|---|
| The Whitebait Railroad Company | Remove a location card from the game (as with the Stick of Dynamite action). Or remove from the game all prairie cards of your choice. |
| Angel and Bionda – Circus Acrobats | You may take this card back into your hand from any location. |
| Lope – Orphan Boy | If you won the Attack phase and this card is in the current location, draw one card. |
| Elena Whiskerandos | [hand icon] Find the card you need in the Frontier deck, take it into your hand, then shuffle the deck. |
| Gertrude Spacks – Soiled Dove | Sacrifice Gertrude by removing her from the current location to prevent a [bullet wound token] being added to Jack Colti's card. Moving Gertrude to the current location costs [card icon marked 1]. |
| Lennox Natabus – Cherokee Freedman | [hand icon] Place one [black +1 token] on this card for each "Arkansas Toothpick" card in your discard pile. Also place a [red poker chip marked 2] on this card for each played Cherokee Freedman card (except Lennox). |
| Ancestral Spirit Guide | At the end of each of your turns, look at the top four cards of your deck and put them back on top of the deck in any order. During your turn you may discard this card to remove one [bullet wound token]. |
| "Gonna ride like the wind, Revolver in Each Hand, Reigns Gripped in me Teeth" |
Frontier Deck Cards
| English name | Effect |
|---|---|
| Smoke Signal | "Play this card immediately." When you first draw this card, get one [silver coin] and the [smoke signal token]. Then shuffle this card back into the Frontier deck. When either player next draws this card, he gets one [silver coin], and the player with the [smoke signal token] may place a [red poker chip marked 2] on any card in play. |
| The Shakes | "Play this card immediately." When you first draw this card, get one [silver coin] and the [fever token]. Then shuffle this card back into the Frontier deck. When any player draws this card for the second time, the player with the [fever token] skips his "Draw two cards" phase. |
| Wagon full of Pilgrims | [hand icon] Move one of your opponent's character or firepower cards from the current location to the previous one – ignoring "Sandstorm". May not be played at the Bank at Repentance Springs. |
| Fire in the Sky | While this card is in play, neither player may hold more than five cards in hand at the end of his turn – all excess cards must be discarded. |
| Ungodly Desperadoes | "Play this card immediately." Place this card in your opponent's column. It is not counted toward the card limit in that column. This card is not affected by the "Sandstorm" card. |
| Shirlene and Linda Sue – Daughters of Ma and Pa Shepperson | Pay [card icon marked 1], or [card icon marked 2], or [card icon marked 3]. Equivalents: [card icon marked 1] = [red poker chip marked 2]; [card icon marked 2] = [red poker chip marked 4]; [card icon marked 3] = [red poker chip marked 6]. |
Ambush Card
| English name | Effect |
|---|---|
| Rockslide | Move the turn marker back to the last space of the previous location. Then continue your turn there. This card may not be placed at the Bank at Repentance Springs or at the San Manzanillo Prison. |
