Components

  • 4 player pawns (1 per player)
  • 9 Upgrade Module tiles
  • 15 Machine tokens (3 kinds, 5 of each)
  • 1 Large City tile
  • Devotion track (in 3 parts)
  • 9 Citizen cards
  • 16 Scyphoz cards
  • 18 Pathway cards
  • 3 Lake tiles
  • 4 Tribe boards
  • 5 Portal tiles
  • 8 Parasite markers
  • 4 Gadget tiles
  • 1 Circadian tile

The components of this expansion are identified by the expansion symbol printed on them: new Citizen cards, Large City tile, new Machine tokens and Upgrade Modules.

Note on the Base Revive Game

We have noticed a layout problem on page 17 of the Revive base game rulebook which may lead players to question how points are counted for large artefacts. Here is an update for calculating the final score:

  • The points of its large artefacts and the points of its Artefact card: a player scores points for each of the 3 categories indicated on its card (see page 18). For each large artefact it owns, it scores the corresponding category 1 more time.

Additional Setup

Before step 1 of the general setup:

  • Shuffle the additional components of the expansion (new Citizen cards and Large City tile, new Machine tokens and Upgrade Modules, identifiable by their expansion symbol) with the corresponding components of the base game.
  • Assemble the Devotion track and place it next to the central board, alongside the score track.
  • Each player places a player pawn of their colour on space 0 of the Devotion track.
  • Take a Large City tile at random and place it in the notch of the Devotion track.
  • Shuffle the Scyphoz cards and create a face-down pile next to the central board.
  • Shuffle the Pathway cards and create a face-down pile next to the central board. Reveal the first 3 cards and add them to the market.

Step 2 of the general setup (placing the Zone tiles):

After placing the 5 starting Zone tiles on the central board, remove 3 Zone tiles at random from the game (return them to the box). Then shuffle the 3 Lake tiles together with the remaining Zone tiles before covering the central board.

Note: the Lake tiles are placed face up on the board and must not be adjacent to each other.

Like the Giant Crystals, lakes cannot be crossed. If necessary, move the Lake tiles so that there is access from the rift to each of the large cities in the corners of the central board.

Player Setup

The new Tribe boards may be shuffled together with those of the base game. Return the components associated with any Tribe board that is not used to the box.

Common Artefact Card Variant

If you want to reduce the randomness in scoring the hidden Artefact cards at the end of the game, we propose placing a single common Artefact card face up above the Artefact tiles on the central board, instead of dealing a face-down Artefact card to each player during step 7 of player setup. At the end of the game, each player scores points for each of the 3 categories indicated on the Artefact card revealed at the start of the game, depending on their artefacts.

Machine Tokens Variant

Each time you gain a Machine token from the market, discard another Machine token of the same colour from the market and put it back under the corresponding draw pile. Then refill the market by drawing 2 new Machine tokens.

Devotion Track

"The more we immerse ourselves in Scyphoz culture, the more they reward us." — Nàdair

When you gain devotion points (devotion icon), move your player pawn along the Devotion track. If you reach or pass a bonus space on the Devotion track, you immediately gain the indicated reward:

  • Draw 2 Scyphoz cards. Place one in your action zone, and put the other under the pile.
  • Following the usual repopulation rules, place a Population pawn on the Large City tile of the Devotion track. You do not need to pay books for technology, and you do not give anything to other players already present on this tile.
  • Take 1 large artefact from the central board.

Point Conversion

Each time you gain devotion points or victory points during the game, you may convert them, partially or entirely, at a ratio of 2:1 and advance on the other track instead.

Instead of gaining 5 points on the score track, you gain only 1 and convert the other 4 into 2 devotion points.

At the end of the game, add your devotion points to your victory points. If you exceed 25 devotion points during the game, continue to track your devotion points from space 26 of the score track by lying down your corresponding player pawn (to differentiate it from your score pawn).

Scyphoz Cards

"The Scyphos... superior organic processors... we must seek their incorporation..." — Ostarius

You gain Scyphoz cards by advancing on the Devotion track. You play these cards like normal Citizen cards, in your card slots. When you play a Scyphoz card, you choose its colour (grey, green or yellow) for the whole turn (for activating modules, etc.).

During each turn, you may choose a different colour for each of your Scyphoz cards. At the end of the game, you may also choose the colour of each of your Scyphoz cards for the final scoring.

Example: you have unlocked the end-of-game bonus at the end of the yellow Machine track, which gives 2 points per yellow card. You may choose for your Scyphoz cards to be yellow so that each one scores you 2 points.

Example: a card allows you to play another green card. You have a Scyphoz card, so you may play it considering it to be green for this turn. You thus activate every green Upgrade Module of the slot where you place it.

The Scyphoz card effects pictured on page 3 are:

  • Gain 1 Crystal for each lake next to which you have built at least one building.
  • Activate the bottom effect of one of the 5 market cards.
  • Place 1 to 3 action cards from your action zone into your rest zone. Activate the top effect of each of these cards.
  • Reset your Interrupter token to its "unused" position. Then play another card.
  • Pay 1 Crystal to advance one of your Basic Resource markers (food, books, gears) to 6.

Note on the first Kuniban technology: when you gain a Scyphoz card, you may choose its colour, and thus gain the corresponding reward.

Lakes

"Blessed be the lakes that host the Scyphoz. We gather there to benefit from their knowledge... that is at least the refrain of the Nàdairs. Observe and obey in order to act when the time comes, here is ours." — Leader Kairos

Lakes are not considered water spaces for counts and effects during the game (for example, the Hofstadteriens cannot build their temples on lakes).

You may not count range by passing through a Lake tile.

The first building of each type that you build adjacent to a lake gives you the reward shown in the left column of the Lake tile (the top one for a small building, the bottom one for a large building).

Example: building your first small building adjacent to this lake immediately gives you 1 devotion point. Your first large building gives you 3 devotion points.

Important: you only gain a lake's reward once for each building type!

Hibernation: when you hibernate, each building type adjacent to a lake gives you the hibernation bonus shown in the right column of the Lake tile (the top one for a small building, the bottom one for a large building).

Example: in this configuration, when you hibernate, you gain 1 book thanks to your small building, and 1 devotion point thanks to your large building.

New Machine Tokens

  • This machine can be activated when you gain victory points or devotion points, or by converting as many as you wish into points of the other type at a ratio of 1:1. Example: you explore and gain 4 victory points. You may activate this machine to gain 3 devotion points and 1 victory point.
  • Pay 1 Crystal to take a card from your rest zone and place it in your action zone.
  • Reset your Interrupter token to its "unused" position.
  • Gain 1 devotion point.

Unstable Machines

Machines bearing an explosion symbol are unstable and can only be used once during the whole game. When you use one of these machines, turn its token face down. The energy used remains on the tile and can be recovered as usual (for example, when you hibernate). A face-down machine of this kind counts as a Vial symbol for effects and for scoring (as reminded by the Vial symbol on the back of these machines).

  • Take all the cards from your Card slots and place them in your rest zone.
  • Take all the cards from your rest zone and place them in your action zone.
  • Return all your energies to your energy storage (including the one used to activate this machine).

Pathway (Cheminement)

"Call it a pilgrimage, a path, or a trial. Or just an exchange. Whatever its name, we must do it. It is far too important." — Gib'warks

When you perform the action Activate your Interrupter token, you may choose to begin your pathway instead of performing the usual action (gain 1 basic resource, or copy the top effect of a card of another player).

To begin your pathway, discard a Citizen or Scyphoz card from your action zone and return it to the game box. Then take one of the three Pathway cards from the market and place it above your Tribe board. Refill the market. The Pathway card you take must be of the same colour as the card you discarded!

A Scyphoz card gives access to any Pathway card (since you choose its colour). If none of the cards in your action zone allows you to take a Pathway card, you may not perform this action.

Caption: to take this Pathway card, you must activate your Interrupter and discard a green Citizen (or Scyphoz) card.

Completing Your Pathway

Each Pathway card presents three conditions. On your turn, you may complete a Pathway card placed above your Tribe board by choosing one of the conditions you meet on this card. Gain the corresponding reward, then place this card face down to the right of your individual board. This is not an action.

Caption: if you own at least 2 crates, you may complete this Pathway card at any time. Gain the indicated devotion points and turn the card face down.

Each completed Pathway card counts as a Vial symbol for effects and scoring (as reminded by the Vial symbol on the back of these cards). You may complete each Pathway card only once (meet only one of its conditions and gain only one reward).

The 10 Pathway card conditions illustrated on page 5 are listed below. Each one has three threshold levels (written as 1/2/3, 2/3/4, etc.); the Pathway cards each present three of these conditions.

  • Have at least 2/3/4 visible Vials in your play area.
  • Have built adjacent to at least 1/2/3 different lakes.
  • Own at least 2/3/4 crates.
  • Have built at least 2/4/6 buildings (large and/or small).
  • Have placed at least 2/4/6 of your Population pawns.
  • Have built at least 1/2/3 large buildings.
  • Pay 3 Food OR 3 Crystals OR 6 Books.
  • Have built adjacent to at least 1/2/3 different water spaces (lakes do not count).
  • Have reached or passed space 5/8/12 of the corresponding Machine track (yellow / green / grey).
  • Have built adjacent to at least 1/2/3 Crystal symbols (giant Crystals included).

New Large Cities

  • Score 3 points for each of your Scyphoz cards.
  • For each lake, score 2 points per building type (small / large) that you own adjacent to it.

Example: you have built a small building adjacent to two lakes, and a small and a large building adjacent to the last lake. You score 2 x 4 = 8 points.

New Tribes

Layout note: on the source page, the Ostarius abilities and the day/night abilities are printed in the right-hand column, and the Kairos abilities in the left-hand column.

Ostarius

Setup: you start the game with 5 Portal tiles. You also start with a special machine on your Tribe board (which allows you to flip one of your Portal tiles to its other side).

Special rule: when you hibernate, you must flip all your portals to their other side on the central board.

  • An open portal counts as a single space for any player when counting range.
  • No player (not even you) may count range through a closed portal.

Tribe ability: pay 1 crystal (and the range) to place a portal, open or closed, on any free sand or terrain spaces (forest, mountain, field) on the board.

  • You may count range to any space covered by this Portal tile.
  • For each terrain space (forest, mountain, field) covered by the portal, advance one space on your corresponding Machine track.

Tribe abilities shown on the page:

  • You may count range from your closed portals.
  • You may count range through lakes. Each lake counts as a single space.
  • When you hibernate, you may first take two cards from your card slots and place them in your rest zone. You may thus return them to your action zone during this hibernation.

Day / Night ability (energy):

  • DAY: before or after a Repopulate or Build action, you may return an energy used from a machine to your energy storage.
  • NIGHT: gain +1 range for all your actions.

Day / Night ability (repopulating):

  • DAY: when you repopulate, immediately advance one space on the corresponding Machine track for each terrain space adjacent to the city you repopulate. Large City tiles count as a single city space and can have many adjacent spaces. Unlike a Build action, you only benefit from this bonus for terrain spaces already revealed when you repopulate.
  • NIGHT: each time you explore, you gain 1 additional victory point.

Day / Night machine: the effect of this machine changes according to the visible side of the Circadian tile:

  • DAY: pay 1 crystal to gain 2 devotion points.
  • NIGHT: this machine can be activated when you gain victory points or devotion points, to convert as many as you wish into points of the other type at a ratio of 1:1.

Example: you gain 4 victory points. You activate this machine to convert 3 of these points into devotion points, and advance on the tracks accordingly.

Kairos

Setup: you start the game with the Circadian tile. Place it in front of you, with the "Day" side visible.

Special rule: the effects of your technologies change according to the visible side of the Circadian tile.

When you hibernate, you must flip the Circadian tile over to its other side.

Tribe ability: flip the Circadian tile over to its other side, then gain 1 devotion point and 1 basic resource of your choice.

Gib'warks

Setup: you start the game with these 2 Gadget tiles face up in front of you. Set the 2 other Gadget tiles aside.

Special rule: when you activate your Interrupter, you may, in addition to the normal effect, flip one of your Gadget tiles face down to benefit from its effect. (If all your Gadget tiles are already face down, you cannot benefit from this additional effect.)

When you hibernate, flip all your Gadget tiles face up.

Tribe ability: you may use your tribe's ability only if your Interrupter token is in its "used" position.

If you play a Tribe ability effect while your Interrupter is in its "unused" position, the effect is entirely ignored (and you do not move a Progress marker).

Hibernation: when you hibernate, gain 1 victory point for each Gadget tile you have used (which you flip face up).

Gadget (once only, unlock): unlock the corresponding Gadget tile. Place this tile face up in front of you. When you use this gadget, advance your Gear resource marker to 6.

Gadget (once only, unlock): unlock the corresponding Gadget tile. Place this tile face up in front of you. When you use this gadget, return up to 2 of your used energies to your energy storage.

Cordycéphiens (not playable solo)

Setup: you start the game with 8 Parasite markers. Give one to each other player.

Special rule: you may build on spaces already occupied by other players (pay the range and the building cost as usual). When you build or repopulate an occupied space, give a Parasite marker to each other player who occupies that space.

The Cordycéphiens ability and technologies allow you to take a Parasite marker from another player to benefit from one of its effects (you "parasite" that other player).

  • Each time another player counts range passing through a space containing one of your buildings or Population pawns, you may give them a Parasite marker and gain 1 Crystal.
  • This effect does not apply if a player counts range from a space where you are both present.

Note: players are never required to count range by the shortest path; they may take detours if they wish.

  • At any time, take a Parasite marker from another player to use one of the technologies unlocked on their Tribe board. You may not copy a technology with a special machine or with an effect "Once per game" or "Once only" (which covers all the last-level technologies that give large artefacts).

The moment at which you use this effect depends on the technology you copy. Example: when you hibernate, you may take a Parasite marker from the Gib'warks player to copy their base technology ("When you hibernate: gain 1 point per gadget used"). You then gain 1 victory point for each gadget lying face down in front of the Gib'warks player at that moment (the gadgets are not turned face up).

  • At any time, take a Parasite marker from another player to count range from one of their buildings instead of yours. You do not have the right to count range from their Population pawns.

Notes:

  • Other players cannot build on spaces you occupy.
  • You do not give a Parasite marker to a player who repopulates a city on which you are already present.
  • You may take a Parasite marker from another player at any time, without any other effect (if you happen to run out of Parasite markers, for example).

Tribe ability: take a Parasite marker from another player to copy an effect (top or bottom) on a card in your action zone. The copied card remains in place. You may not copy an effect that activates your tribe's ability!

If no other player has a Parasite marker, your tribe's ability has no other effect than moving a Progress marker.

Final Scoring

Score the following, in this order as printed:

  • Devotion points (convert all your devotion points into victory points).
  • Progress track.
  • Unlocked technologies.
  • Large cities.
  • End-of-game bonus of the Machine tracks (if unlocked).
  • Small artefacts and End-of-game tile.
  • 1 victory point for each complete set of 5 remaining resources.
  • Large artefacts and Artefact card.

Solo Game: New Rules and Achievements

In addition to advancing your Action cube each time you play a card or hibernate, you also advance the cube by 1 space each time you activate your Interrupter.

You may only build 1 building on each Zone tile. Your Population pawns and the tiles specific to your tribe are unlimited.

Try to achieve the achievements below, and tick the corresponding box when you achieve them. Tick the Adept / Master / Venerated / Divinity box if you manage to score at least 100 / 130 / 160 / 200 points in a game.

Achievements:

  • Bricoleur (Handyman): have 12 Upgrade Modules.
  • Xénologue (Xenologist): score 25+ devotion points and 10+ victory points thanks to the Large City tile of the Devotion track.
  • Pèlerin (Pilgrim): complete 5+ pathways.
  • Pionnier (Pioneer): reach the 4 large cities in the corners of the board.
  • Architecte (Architect): reach the end of each of the 3 Machine tracks.
  • Documentaliste (Archivist): place your 7 Population pawns.

Rank key (tracker): circle = 100+ points, Adept; 130+ points, Master; 160+ points, Venerated; 200+ points, Divinity.

The source page also prints a tick-box tracker grid with one column per tribe (Nàdair, Hofstadteriens, a ninth tribe name illegible in the scan, Kuniban, Formica, Vukuntur, Gib'warks, Ostarius, Kairos) for recording these achievements; it is a score sheet, not rules text, and is not reproduced.

Closing line on the page: "Will you become a venerated Nàdair architect? A divinity of Ostarius?"
