Does removing a foe with an effect count as defeating it?
The designer said removing is not defeating.

No. Only winning a Battle action defeats a foe. A foe removed by an item or effect does not trigger rewards or abilities that need a defeat, and it earns no 2 spirit. Tell the app on the enemy screen that the foe was removed outside battle so it does not level the foe up.
