Contents

  • 1 game board
  • 54 route cards
  • 5 playing pieces (pawns)
  • 5 plastic markers

Preparation

  • Each player chooses a playing piece (pawn) and a plastic marker of the same colour.
  • Shuffle the route cards thoroughly. Then deal four cards to each player.
  • Place the remaining cards picture side down on the game board so that everyone can reach the card piles and draw new cards.

Based on the route cards in your hand, choose the capital you want to start from: Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo or Reykjavik. Two or more players may start from the same capital. You may travel both clockwise and counterclockwise on the map, whichever you prefer. When you have chosen your starting city, place your plastic marker at the city name so you remember where you started.

How to choose your starting city: If you have two boat cards and two train cards in hand, Copenhagen is a suitable starting city for your journey. You can get at least as far as Åbo in Finland with these cards in hand. (Note: only one city per move, however.)

If you have no boat or airplane cards in hand, do not start from Reykjavik. You cannot begin by getting away from there!

Playing the Game

The youngest player begins. If any of your route cards fits a means of transport from the city you are in, you may move your playing piece to the next city.

Example: From Stockholm you can travel by boat to Åbo, walk to Västervik, or take the train to Nässjö.

The route card you use is placed picture side up on the game board next to the other pile. Then move your playing piece to the next city, and then draw a new card. You must always have 4 cards in hand. The turn then passes to the next player.

If you have no route card that fits the routes leaving your city, you must draw a new card from the pile picture side down. If the card you draw fits, you may move to the next city, and then place that card picture side up on the game board. If the card does not fit, you may not move, and you must place one of your cards picture side up on the game board. You may never have more than 4 cards in hand. The turn then passes to the next player.

You may travel only to one city in each move.

You may travel along any routes you like, forwards or backwards. However, you must visit all five countries before you return to your starting city.

When the pile of cards picture side down runs out, take the pile of cards picture side up, shuffle them well, and place the newly shuffled cards on the game board picture side down.

As you play, you will learn to plan your journey in the best way. The shortest route is not always the fastest.

Who Wins?

The player who has visited all five countries and is first back to their starting city has won.

Happy travels!
