Components
- 1 cruise control (timer) with 2 different speeds (snail: 120 seconds, lightning: 70 seconds)
- 81 cards: 9 times 9 different cards. There are three colours (orange, purple and green), and 9 cards of each colour, showing one of three figures each: running, jumping, lying (like a spider).
- 3 cardboard point men (showing 4, 3 or 2 points)
- 1 set of rules
The three cardboard point men are carefully removed from the frame before the first game.
The 9 different cards are shown in the original rules as an illustration.
Starting the Game
Note: First of all the rules for 5 to 9 players are explained. The 4 player variant is at the end of the rules.
The three cardboard point men are laid out on the table, so that all players can reach them easily.
Paper and pencil are laid out for scoring.
Depending on the number of players, certain cards are removed from the game and put back into the box. From the 9 different cards the following is removed:
- With 4-5 players: 4 cards from each of the 9 different cards are removed, 36 cards altogether.
- With 6-7 players: 2 cards from each of the 9 different cards are removed, 18 cards altogether.
- With 8-9 players: No cards are removed.
The remaining cards are shuffled and each player is dealt 9 cards face down in front of him/her. If there are any cards remaining, they are put aside face down for use in the next round.
Playing the Game
Picking Up the Cards
First of all, all players are allowed to look at their cards. By command, the dealer pushes a button of his choice on the timer.
Now, all players try to form a 'Remmi' by trading cards with each other.
A 'Remmi' consists of exactly 9 cards, which are either:
- of the same colour, with 1 or 2 different figures, or
- showing the same figure, with 1 or 2 different colours.
Note: All 'Remmis' are equal, no matter which figures or colours they consist of.
(The original rules show two valid and two invalid 'Remmis' as pictures.)
Trading
As long as the timer is still running, players may trade 'Demmis' with each other in wild disorder.
A 'Demmi' consists of any number of cards, which are either:
- of the same colour, or
- showing the same figure.
(The original rules show two valid and one invalid 'Demmi' as pictures.)
Players may only trade 'Demmis' of the same size, so that after each exchange all players still have 9 cards in their hands.
Trading works in the following way: players loudly and clearly announce the size of the 'Demmi' they want to exchange, e.g. "Three! Three! Three!".
If one player gets an invalid 'Demmi' from another player, he may return the cards and gets his own cards back from the player he traded with.
Make Remmi Demmi!
If one player has got a complete 'Remmi', he can make 'Remmi-Demmi' by taking the cardboard point man showing the number 4 from the middle of the table. This player then lays down all his cards in front of him and waits for the end of the round.
The next player finishing a 'Remmi' takes the cardboard point man showing the number 3, and the third player completing a 'Remmi' takes the last cardboard point man showing the number 2.
After the end of that round, all players who have made 'Remmi-Demmi' show their 'Remmis' to the other players for checking purposes.
Invalid 'Remmi'
That's bad luck. Doziness is being punished. For an invalid 'Remmi' no points are awarded and you get 5 minus points. You also have to give your cardboard point man to the player with the second highest cardboard point man. If applicable, this player then gives his cardboard point man to the third player of this round. The cardboard point man showing 2 points isn't awarded to anyone in this case. If there is more than one player with an invalid 'Remmi', more cardboard point men are not awarded this round.
Scoring and End of the Game
One round ends as soon as 3 players have made 'Remmi-Demmi' or the timer runs out.
Now all players owning a cardboard point man get awarded their points. Players who completed an invalid 'Remmi' get their 5 minus points.
The game ends after 7 rounds. The player with most points is the winner. If there is a tie, more rounds are played until there is a definitive winner. There is no tiebreaker.
Variants
Remmi-Demmi for 4 Players
Each player is dealt 10 cards at the beginning of each round.
The cardboard point man showing the number 2 is removed from the game.
Nevertheless, a 'Remmi-Demmi' still consists of 9 cards. The 10th card is simply put aside, no matter what colour or figure it is showing.
For Especially Frantic Players
All players are dealt their cards as usual. To begin with, the players have to leave their cards face down in front of them. They are not allowed to look at their cards until the dealer gives a sign. Any player looking at his/her cards before that command gets 1 minus point immediately. Any player trying to start trading before the dealer starts the timer gets 1 minus point as well.
