Setup
- Lay the 40 Ocean tiles in a 8 x 5 grid face down in the middle of the playing area. This forms the Ocean.
- Each player receives 2 double-sided Dugong Action cards in their player colour. Randomly shuffle these cards and place them face-up, side by side, in front of each player.
- Determine a First Officer by any method, preferably the player who most recently visited the ocean. You are ready to begin!
Flow of the Game
Each player takes turns delving into the Pacific Ocean to find different sea creatures to score Rescue Points (RP). The aim of the game is to score the most RP by rescuing Little Creatures and Gigantic Creatures. The game ends when there are only 10 or less Ocean tiles left.
Beginning with the First Officer, players take turns in a clockwise order. On their turn, a player chooses 1 of their 2 face-up Dugong Action cards and executes the action stated on the tile.
Once the player has executed their action, they flip over the Dugong Action tile they used to show the opposite side. It is now the next player's turn in clockwise order.
There are 4 different possible actions that you can take in your Dugong. The 4 actions are described in detail below.
Fast Fin
One by one, you may flip up to 5 tiles from the Ocean. Your turn ends when either A or B occurs:
A. A Garbage Patch tile is revealed. If this happens, all face-up tiles are flipped face-down and it is the next player's turn.
B. The player chooses to stop flipping over tiles, or there are 5 face-up tiles. You may ONLY claim a Gigantic Creature if you have exactly 2 halves of it and/or the Great Coral Reef if you have all 3 tiles in the set.
Example: Bonnie goes first and uses her Fast Fin to flip up to 5 tiles. On her fourth tile, she flips a Garbage Patch (Tile 4). Her turn ends. She flips all face-up Ocean tiles face-down without claiming anything.
Bright Beam
Flip over up to 3 tiles in the Ocean. The tiles must all be directly adjacent in the same row. Then, you may rescue EITHER:
- A Gigantic Creature if you have exactly 2 halves of it or the Great Coral Reef if you have all 3 tiles in the set.
OR
- Any Little Creatures that you have flipped over.
Then, flip any remaining tiles over. You will be unaffected by Garbage Patches.
Example: Going next, Ah Siong activates his Bright Beam and flips 3 adjacent tiles face-up. The first contains a Little Creature, the other 2 contain both halves of a Gigantic Creature. He chooses to claim the Gigantic Creature (Tile 2 and 3) and flips the Little Creature (Tile 1) face-down.
Turbo Turbine
Similar to Fast Fin, you may flip up to 5 tiles face-up, one by one. Your turn ends when either A or B occurs:
A. A Garbage Patch tile is revealed. If this happens, the player flips all face-up tiles face-down and it is the next player's turn.
B. The player chooses to stop flipping over tiles, or there are 5 face-up tiles. You may ONLY claim tiles with Little Creatures. Then, flip any remaining Ocean tiles over.
Example: Farid activates his Turbo Turbine, flips 5 tiles face-up, and claims the 4 of them that contain Little Creatures. He then flips the remaining face-up tile (Tile 3) face-down.
Sea Scope
Pick up any 3 Ocean tiles in the Ocean. Look at them secretly and place them back anywhere you choose in the Ocean.
You will be unaffected by any Garbage Patch tiles.
Example: Shanti picks 3 tiles from the Ocean, peeks at them, and intentionally places them back, face-down, into different empty spaces in the Ocean.
End of the Game
The game will enter its last round when there are 10 or less tiles in the Ocean. Play until each player has played an equal number of turns.
Now, each player counts their Rescue Points (RP) from their Ocean tiles:
- Each Little Creature is worth 1 RP. Tiles are worth between 2-4 RP depending on the number of Little Creatures featured on each tile. Refer to the Reef Guide on Page B if the number of RP is unclear.
- Each Large Creature is worth 10 RP.
- The Great Coral Reef is worth 15 RP.
- The player(s) who have rescued the most Ocean tiles with exactly 2 Little Creatures gain an additional 10 RP.
The player with the most Rescue Points is the winner!
Example: Farid is tied for the most tiles with 2 Little Creatures (4 tiles x 2 RP = 8 RP). At the end of the game, Farid's final score (8 + 4 + 10 + 10) adds up to 32 RP.

Named after the marine mammal that lives in the warm waters of the Pacific, the Dugong G3 is a compact ocean exploration vessel well equipped to dive to the aquatic depths of the Pacific. In Reef Rescue, players each captain their own Dugong, using its various functions to plumb the waters of the Pacific Ocean in search of sea creatures.
