Components

  • 1 timer
  • 1 die
  • 100 letter cards
  • 120 category cards, in four colours:
    • Animals (green): "Young of an animal"
    • Culture (blue): "Tourist attraction"
    • Everyday life (orange): "School subject"
    • Science (red): "Something related to space" (the setup illustration labels this deck "Science and Nature" / "Наука и природа")

Goal of the Game

The first player who plays all of their letter cards from their deck wins!

Setup

  1. Shuffle all the letter cards and deal them evenly to all players. Each player's letter deck is placed face down in front of them.
  2. Divide the category cards into 4 decks by colour and place them in the centre of the table, as shown in the illustration.
  3. Each player takes the top 3 cards from their letter deck into their hand.

Turn Order

  1. Players take turns, starting with the youngest player and continuing clockwise.
  2. On your turn, roll the die. Then take the top card from the category deck of the matching colour and place it face up in the centre of the table so that all players can see it.
    • Also: if black is rolled on the die, you may choose a card of any colour instead.
    • Also: if white is rolled on the die, you must pass the right to choose a card of any colour to another player, who chooses on their own discretion.
  3. Flip the timer. Now ALL players, without regard to turn order, say an answer that begins with one of the letters in their hand, and play the card with that letter to the centre of the table. For example, if the category "Animal with a tail" comes up and you have a card with the letter "M", you can say "Mouse!" and play that letter card on the table. After playing a card, immediately take a new card from the top of your letter deck. This way, there must always be 3 letter cards in your hand.
  4. While the time has not run out, try to come up with as many suitable answers as possible, so as to play more letter cards. Players do not have to answer in turn: you may play a card and say your answer as soon as it occurs to you. When the time runs out, answers are no longer accepted.
    • Also: answers within the same round must not repeat. Keeping track of this rule is a shared responsibility.
  5. When the time has run out, the next player in turn order rolls the die. The game continues until one of the players runs out of cards in their letter deck!

Example

The illustration on this page shows a category card "Animal with the letter "E" in its name" on the table. Players play letter cards with the following answers:

  • Letter "T": "Seal!" (тюлень)
  • Letter "E": "Raccoon!" (енот)
  • Lucky letter card (Счастливая буква, "Choose any letter from А to Я"): "Snake!" (змея)

Special Cards

Special cards are shown in the category deck colours (blue); each has a short instruction printed on its face.

  • Replacement (Замена): you may play this card at any moment of the round while there is still time left. After playing it, replace the category card with a new card of the same colour, after which the game continues as usual until time runs out.
  • Vowels (Гласные): you may choose any vowel as the first letter of your answer. (Printed on the card: "Choose a letter from А, Е, Ё, И, О, У, Э, Ю, Я".)
  • Lucky Letter (Счастливая буква): you may choose any letter of the alphabet as the first letter of your answer. (Printed on the card: "Choose any letter from А to Я".)
