Setup

You can choose one of two game modes: the steps or the chain. Each player takes a different sheet (A–E) from the game pad to use for the selected mode. Start off just like you would in a normal game of Qwixx.

You'll still be following all the same rules as in the Qwixx base game.

Game mode 1: the steps

Play the game following the normal rules. When you add up the scores at the end of the game, you'll receive extra points for the steps – any number with a black border. Count how many steps you've crossed out and add up the points in the same way as for the coloured rows. With a total of 11 steps on your sheet, that means you could score up to 66 points.

The score sheet's Total row has an extra, fifth scoring space for the steps, marked "5th scoring space: the steps".

Please note: This means the step numbers are particularly valuable, because you count them twice in your score.

Game mode 2: the chain

Play the game following the normal rules. The difference in this mode is that if you cross out a link in the chain – any number inside a black circle – you must immediately cross out the second link in the chain as well.

Please note: You must always cross out the second link in the chain, and it can happen no matter what stage of the game you're at! You need to cross out the second link in the chain even if it's on a row on which you've already crossed out some numbers to the right of that number, and even if it's on a row that you've already completed.
