Preparation of the Game
Remove all the letters and dots from the frames (by pushing from the underside), and arrange them in the correct places marked in the inner-tray. Place the dots in the centre circle.
Object of the Game
The letters chosen during the game are placed in the squares on the players board in such a way as to form words, horizontally and vertically. Words of less than 8 letters must be ended by a black full-stop. At the end of the game each letter in a word finished with a black full-stop counts for one point, whether horizontal or vertical.
A word not finished with a black full-stop does not count.
In this game it is permissable to use abbreviations, proper and geographic names, and plurals, but single-letter words do not count.
Example
Add up all the letters from all the words, except those which are unfinished or wrong, those not finished with a full-stop and not being a complete word.
In this example the total is 71 points (words not counted are "AR", "LU", "PTELL", "PL", "NEVERP").
The winner is the player with the most points.

Rules of Play
Each player is given a board and throws the dice in turn. The first to throw the "joker" begins the game by throwing the dice again, and may then choose a number of letters or black full-stops according to the indication of the dice. The player announces the first letter, and it is put in its chosen place on the board.
Each other player must take the same letter and place it on their own boards. Then the next letter is announced. If a letter is used up, any other may be taken. Once a letter of full-stop is placed on a board it is forbidden to move it. When the first player has chosen the number of letters allowed, it is the turn of the player to his left, and so on.
If the "joker" is thrown, 3 letters may be taken in the normal way, or one unwanted letter may be replaced by another. Each other player must remove the same letter and take the letter newly chosen. Each player decides for himself where to put this new letter. Every letter and full-stop must be placed on the boards, and the game ends when none of the players is able to proceed.
At the end of the game points are counted horizontally and vertically for the complete words finished with a full-stop as explained above. One point for each letter of each such complete word.
Variations of "Quizzle"
Shorter game: It is possible to decide in advance to limit the use of the playing-board areas to 5 x 5, or 6 x 6, 7 x 7 squares.
Quizzle patience: It is also possible to play "Quizzle" as a game of patience. In this, an attempt is made to obtain the maximum number of points following normal rules of the game regarding placing of the letters, and using as few full-stops as possible. A score of 128 points is theoretically possible.
