Setup

1. Choose a Game level (easy, medium, or hard) and randomly select 1 Setup card of the chosen level. Place it face up in the center of the table. Put the remaining Setup cards back into the box.

   Setup cards show the Game level, the number of Statement and Special Statement cards placed during setup.

2. Randomly pick a number of Statement cards of each difficulty level as shown on the Setup card and place them face up in a row below the Setup card. Make sure each Statement card is of a different category (Geography, Sports, Politics, etc.). If you get a category that has already been picked, return it to the box and pick a new one. Do not look at their backs. Put the remaining Statement cards back into the box.

   Each Statement card shows, on the front: the category, the difficulty (number of stars), the statement, and the number of matching Country cards in the game. On the back: the list of correct countries and their regions.

3. Place the Special Statement cards shown on the Setup card face up in a row below the Statement cards. Put the remaining Special Statement cards back into the box.

4. Place 3 Debate cards above the Statement cards.

5. Shuffle all Country cards and deal each player 4 of them. This is your hand. The cards in your hand should be kept secret from the other players.

6. Draw 3 Country cards and place them face up next to the Debate cards. These are Open cards.

7. Place the remaining Country cards face down above the Open cards. This is the Country deck.

How to Play

During the game, you place Country cards onto Statement cards trying to match the card's statement. The game ends when there are at least 2 cards on each Statement and Special Statement card. If you made 3 or fewer mistakes, you collectively win the game.

Note: The publisher and the designer have gone over all the statements multiple times checking them through multiple sources. To the best of their abilities, they have made sure that the statements are true as of the end of 2023. As time goes by, events happen, and facts can change.

The player who traveled abroad most recently takes the first turn. Players continue to take turns in clockwise order. On your turn, you must either play or move a single Country card.

Play a Country card

Important: All statements refer to the modern-day countries and their territories. For example, Spain fits the statement "Was part of the Roman Empire (totally or partially)" even though there was no such country at the time.

Pick any Country card from your hand and place it face up onto a Statement, Special Statement or Debate card.

You are allowed to openly debate all the face-up cards on the table, but you are not allowed to discuss the exact Country cards in your hand. However, you may say that you have or don't have cards in hand matching a specific statement without going into details. You are also allowed to talk about different regions, discuss various historical and geographical topics, and debate other things with other players, without directly or indirectly naming countries unless these countries are face-up on the table.

Example: There is a Statement card "Is one of the top 30 rice consumers in the world (per capita)" on the table. You are allowed to say "Do you think there are many countries that eat rice in Central Asia?" and discuss this topic. However, you are not allowed to ask "Do you think the countries near mount Everest eat a lot of rice?" as that would leave only two possible countries.

Once you play a Country card onto a Statement or Special Statement card, it stays there until the end of the game.

Instead of playing a Country card onto a Statement or Special Statement card, you may play it onto a Debate card that doesn't already have a Country card on it. Country cards on Debate cards may be moved later on (see Move a Country card).

If there are no free Debate cards, then you can only play your Country cards onto Statement or Special Statement cards.

After playing a Country card, draw 1 card from the Country deck to your hand and end your turn.

Note: Although the game ends when there are at least 2 Country cards on each Statement and Special Statement card, you may play additional cards onto cards that already have 2 Country cards on them. This helps you get new cards in your hand.

Example: It's John's turn. He thinks that Portugal has played in at least two FIFA World Cups, so he plays his "Portugal" Country card face up onto the Statement card "Played in at least two FIFA World Cups". Then he draws a new card from the Country deck.

Move a Country card

Instead of playing a card from your hand you may move 1 Country card from a Debate card or from the Open cards to any Statement or Special Statement card.

If you move a Country card from the Open cards, immediately replace it with a new card from the Country deck.

If you move a Country card from a Debate card, put the Debate card back in the box.

Note: This makes Debate cards very valuable and you have to think carefully which Country cards to play onto them.

Example: History has never been John's strong suit, but there are still no cards on the Statement card "Was part of the Mongol Empire". John plays his "Pakistan" Country card onto a free Debate card to discuss it with the others. Then he draws a new card from the Country deck and ends his turn.

Example continued: Unlike John, Emily paid full attention during History class, so she knows that Pakistan was part of the Mongol Empire. On her turn, she explains it to the others and moves the "Pakistan" card from the Debate card to the Statement card. Then she returns the Debate card to the box and ends her turn.

Note for a 1-player game: When playing solo, you obviously aren't able to discuss anything with other players; however, playing cards onto Debate cards may help you save them for later and draw new cards.

End of the Game

If there are at least 2 Country cards on each Statement card and each Special Statement card at the end of a player's turn, the game ends immediately and players proceed to Checking Answers.

Example: After discussing with the others, John decides to move "Nigeria" from the Open cards onto the "2 or more" Special Statement card. Now every Statement and Special Statement card has at least 2 Country cards on them. The game ends and the players proceed to Checking Answers.

Checking Answers

Flip each Statement card and compare the answers on its back to the Country cards on it.

Any Country card that matches an answer is correct. Each other Country card is a mistake. Flip mistakes face down.

Then check each Country card on each Special Statement card. Count how often the country is shown as an answer on all Statement cards and check if this number matches the condition. If it does, it is correct. If not, it is a mistake. Flip mistakes face down.

Example: Countries played on the "None" Special Statement card are correct if they are not shown on any Statement card.

If you have 3 or fewer mistakes (face-down Country cards), you win the game! Otherwise, you lose.

The players have made 2 mistakes, so they win the game!

Debate Mode

If you want to play an easier game of QuizWiz, don't put any Debate cards back into the box after Country cards are removed from them.

This way you may have more Country cards to discuss throughout the game.
