Setup

Before the first game

Punch all the pieces out of their frames. Place the sorting strips in the middle of the box so that there is a compartment next to each category name. Sort the matching quiz cards into them.

Before each game

  1. Place the opened box on the table. The score track (Punkteleiste) runs along its edge, and all the quiz cards are within easy reach inside the box.
  2. Shuffle the 19 category cards and place them face down as a draw pile.
  3. Each player takes the avatar, quiz board, guess stone and score clip in their chosen colour.
    • Place your avatar in front of you, with either side facing up. You may customise the faces as you like by placing style tiles in the appropriate spots.
    • Place your quiz board with its guess stone in front of you.
    • Insert your score clip into the silver space 0 of the score track on the edge of the box.
  4. Place the hourglass and the decoder next to the box.
  5. Decide whether to play with easy, medium or hard questions (= 1, 2 or 3 stars). Tip: It is best to start with easy questions and increase the difficulty to your own taste.

Playing the game

The game is played over 6 rounds. Each round consists of two steps:

  1. Choose a category
  2. Quiz and score points

1. Choose a category

In the first round, the youngest player is the quizmaster. They turn over 3 cards from the category pile and choose one of them. This is the category for the current round. They set the other two category cards aside. They are not needed for the rest of this game.

2. Quiz and score points

The quizmaster takes a quiz card of the corresponding category out of the box. They read out the quiz question of the chosen difficulty level and the 4 answer options. Then they place the card face up on the table where everyone can see it, and turn the hourglass over.

Can a player read the solution despite the encryption? Simply cover the solution field with another quiz card. You may also play with a "full-time" quizmaster (see the variants).

While the time runs, everyone submits their guess, including the quizmaster. To do so, place your guess stone on answer field A, B, C or D of your quiz board. Keep your guess secret by covering it with one hand.

Once the hourglass has run out, everyone reveals their guess. Then the quizmaster decodes the correct answer: to do this, they place the decoder over the red answer area of the quiz question so that the solution letter becomes visible. Note: Sometimes the answer is printed upside down or similar.

Any player who guessed correctly receives 1 point on the score track on the edge of the box.

The quizmaster then takes a new quiz card and asks the next question, and so on. As soon as 3 questions from this category have been asked and scored, the round ends. The quizmaster sets the category card aside. Their left-hand neighbour becomes the new quizmaster. The next round begins again with the choice of a category.

End of the game

The game ends after 6 rounds (= when the category pile has been used up to 1 card). The player with the most points wins. In the event of a tie, there is a tiebreaker: ask questions from the remaining category in turn. As soon as only one player answers a question correctly, that player has won.

Variants

Team game

Form two teams of roughly equal size that compete against each other. Each team receives all the materials of one colour. The team members guess together. To do this they must confer with each other, ideally without giving hints to the opposing team ...

Tournament game

Always 2 players compete against each other in a quick duel over 3 rounds (= 9 questions). Draw lots to decide who plays whom. To do this, take the quiz boards, turn them face down, shuffle them and draw 2 each. The losers of the duels are eliminated. The winners each play against each other in the next round, until the overall winner is determined. If there is an odd number of players and someone is not drawn an opponent, they go directly into the next round!

Levels 1 to 3

For more variety, play with changing difficulty levels, e.g. one easy, one medium and one hard question per category.

Quizmaster

Of course you can also appoint a "full-time" quizmaster. They do not take part in the quiz themselves, but can select the categories and questions to suit the group, keep an eye on the time, award the points, and so on. And they are allowed to comment on the action!
