Presentation

  • a board with 37 hollow spaces
  • 49 counters, 5 checkers and a pair of tweezers

Aim of the Game

To eliminate the opponent's checkers by preventing them from being moved.

Preparation

Lots are drawn to see which player starts.

At the beginning of the game, the counters are placed on the board. The first 37 are inserted in the spaces, then the players take turns to put 9 counters in a second row and 3 counters in a third row. Each of the players then puts a checker on the unoccupied counter of their choosing (fig. 1 and 2.)

How to Play

The players take it in turn to move their checkers and remove the unoccupied counter of their choosing. (fig. 3)

Moving the Checkers

The checkers are moved horizontally, vertically and diagonally from one counter to an adjacent counter. Placing a checker in an empty space or on an already occupied counter is forbidden (fig. 3).

End of the Game

A player who can no longer move his/her checker is eliminated. The checker is then removed from the game (fig. 5).

Variants

Two players: each has 2 checkers and chooses to move one checker on each turn. The other rules remain unchanged. The owner of the last checker still in the game is the winner.

Four players: the players form teams of 2 people, opposite each other. One team plays with the light-coloured checkers, the other with the dark-coloured checkers. Each player in turn chooses which checker to move. The other rules remain unchanged. The owner of the last checker still in the game is the winner.

Length of the Game

10 to 20 minutes.

During a tournament, a set time can be given to each player.
