Components
Board, 25 movable squares, 2 sets of 5 balls and 2 sets of 3 balls.
Two-Player Rules
Each player places their 5 balls in the corners of the game board nearest to them, leaving the last square free (fig. 1). The player with the light balls begins the game.
Goal of the game: be the first to remove 3 of your 5 balls from the opposite corner of the board (fig. 2).
How to play: on each turn, each player chooses either to move one of their balls or to move a row of squares.
- To move a ball: balls move diagonally one square forward, or to the right or left (fig. 3). A ball cannot be moved onto an occupied square and cannot jump over another ball. The only way to move a ball backwards is to move a whole row of squares.
- To move a row of squares: a player may move a row of 5 squares only if that row contains at least one ball of their colour. To move a row of squares, take an empty square (one without a ball) at one end of the board (fig. 4a) and move it to the other end, shifting the other 4 squares into the vacated empty space (fig. 4b). The square taken from the corner of the board may be moved along either of the two rows, vertically or horizontally.
A player cannot cancel the opponent's move on their own turn.
A ball is removed from the board when it reaches the corner square opposite its base (fig. 2).
End of the game: the player who first removes three of their balls from the game board wins the game.
Duration: 10 to 20 minutes.
Simplified Two-Player Version
Instead of 5 balls, each player uses 3, placed in their base, leaving the corner square free (fig. 5).
Goal of the game: be the first to remove 1 of your 3 balls from the opposite corner of the board.
Four-Player Rules
Four sets of 3 balls are used. Players place their balls in the corners of the board, leaving the corner squares free (fig. 6).
Goal of the game: be the first to remove 1 of your 3 balls from the opposite corner of the board.
