Set Up
Each player chooses a color and takes the 18 matching parachutes. The skydiver tiles are common and can be left in the box. The youngest player finishes the setup by placing a tile in the middle of the table and adding a parachute of their color to one of the skydivers on the tile. The second player (the oldest) will begin the game by taking the first turn.
On Your Turn
You may perform one or two actions.
First action (mandatory): you must either mark a skydiver or move a tile. Second action (optional, you may skip this step): you may move a tile.
Practically
Mark + Move* OR Move + Move*
* Optionally, you may always skip the second action!
Marking a Skydiver
A. Choose a free skydiver on an already-played tile and put a parachute on his back.
OR
B. Add a new tile adjacent to an already placed one and add a parachute to one of the new tile's skydivers. All tiles must be oriented in the same direction!
You may only mark a skydiver as your first action!
Moving a Tile
You may select and move a tile to any free space on a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, but there are 2 requirements:
-
All skydiver tiles must continue to be a single formation after the move (all tiles must be linked with edge-to-edge connections).
-
The tile's orientation and existing parachutes remain exactly the same after the move!
Note
When you move a tile, you may NOT twist the tile!
The Golden Rules of Moving
You may NOT move a tile that you marked in the same turn, or one that is already surrounded on all 4 edges!
End of the Game
The player who successfully lines up five of his own skydivers (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) immediately wins the game. If the final turn would see both players with a line of five skydivers, the winner is the one currently on turn. If both players run out of parachutes, the game ends in a tie.
The rulebook illustrates four example winning formations (numbered 1-4), showing that a line of five marked skydivers can win horizontally, vertically, or diagonally even when the underlying tiles are arranged in a bent or offset formation, as long as the five parachute markers themselves fall in an unbroken straight line.
Advanced Quinque
Advanced Quinque is played in the same manner as the basic game, but with a change in how you are allowed to move tiles. Depending on the total number of parachutes on a tile (color doesn't matter), you may move a tile as follows!
1 Parachute
Move the tile to an adjacent position in its row or column.
2 Parachutes
Move the tile to any free position in its row or column (even through tiles).
3 Parachutes
Move the tile to any free position diagonally (even through tiles).
4 Parachutes
Move the tile to any free position horizontally, vertically or diagonally (even through tiles).
