Components

  • 67 fruit tiles
    • 64 fruit: 32 types, 2 of each
    • 3 monkeys
  • 5 wooden sticks
  • 16 marketplace cards
  • Game manual

Objective

Start flipping fruit tiles at the same time as everyone else. Until 3 monkeys appear, quickly collect fruit, building sets of the same type or color. However, watch your fruit carefully, because you can't build sets with fruit that have different facial expressions. Study the marketplace card closely and try to acquire sets that are worth more.

Setup

  • Each player takes 1 wooden stick and places it in front of themselves. It will be used to separate each player's zone from the main zone.
  • Lay out all the fruit tiles face down, mix them well, and spread them out in the center of the play area. If some tiles slightly overlap each other, you can leave them that way.
  • Once only 2 players remain (not counting the monkeys), return about half the fruit tiles to the box.
  • Turn the marketplace cards face down, shuffle them well, and stack them in a pile.
  • Determine who will go first.

The play area is arranged with each player's zone on their side of the table, separated from the shared central play area (where the fruit tiles are spread out) by their wooden stick. The marketplace card pile sits at one end of the play area, near the starting player.

Check the Marketplace Card

The first player takes 1 marketplace card from the pile and places it somewhere visible to all players. All players check the current marketplace card.

How to Read the Marketplace Card

The marketplace card shows the amount of money you will earn depending on how many fruit are in each set. You only earn the bonus for however many bonus fruit you actually have.

  • If you have any sets containing bonus fruit and that set's point value is negative, you can still earn the bonus.
  • A bonus fruit can have any facial expression.

The card is read as: the number of fruit in a set is shown along the top row, and the value of a set with that many fruit is shown in the row below it. A special column on the right shows the color and shape of the bonus fruit for that card, along with the bonus value earned per bonus fruit.

For example, with the card shown in the manual (values -2, -1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 4 for sets of 1 through 7+ fruit, and a bonus of +1 money per matching bonus fruit), if you build a set of 3 or more fruit you can earn money. Sets made of 7 or more fruit can bring in a profit!

Let's Start Picking!

When the starting player says "Ready, go!", all players simultaneously start building fruit sets, as described below, following the same sequence.

A. Flip any tile face down. Leave the tile face up where you flipped it.

B. Take any face-up tile. Tiles that were flipped by any player count as valid (even if you were the one who flipped it).

How to Place Fruit

In your own zone, either:

  • Start a new set and place the fruit face up, or
  • Place the fruit face up into a set you've already started.

Fruit in a set must satisfy both of the following conditions:

1. Facial expression is the same. There are 2 kinds of facial expression: sweet and sour.

2. Color and/or shape matches. Either the same color or the same shape. You can build any number of sets.

Family rule: When playing with young children, ignore facial expression (condition 1) — this makes the game easier.

Rules to Follow

  • Use only 1 hand.
  • Flip only 1 tile at a time.
  • Take only 1 tile at a time.
  • You cannot return tiles from your own zone to the main zone.
  • You cannot rearrange your own sets.

If a Monkey Appears...

  • When a monkey appears, say "Monkey 1", "Monkey 2", and so on, and leave it face up where it was flipped.
  • When 3 monkeys are face up, all players stop moving and proceed to "Calculate Your Earnings". If you are holding any fruit in your hand at this time, you cannot add it to any of your sets.

Calculate Your Earnings

  • Following the values shown on the marketplace card, all players calculate the total value of the sets in their own zone.
  • If a set contains even 1 fruit of the wrong color, shape, or facial expression, that set's value is -10.
  • The player who earned the most money becomes the round winner. They take the current marketplace card and place it face down next to their zone.

If more than 1 player earned the most money, the winner is the player among them with the most fruit. If players are still tied, each of the tied players takes a marketplace card. (After the 1st tied player, the remaining tied players take a card from the pile.)

  • The round is over. Put all the fruit back in the main zone, turn them face down, and shuffle well. The round winner becomes the next starting player, and play continues from "Check the Marketplace Card".

All money cannot be carried over to the next round and returns to 0.

End of the Game

The winner of the game is whoever collects 3 marketplace cards first.
