Game Components

1 Double-Sided Board, 72 Regular Cat Tiles, 12 Gold Cat Tiles, 12 Wool Tokens, 5 Dice, Rulebook.

Setup

  1. Choose a side of the Board to play on. The layout differs on each side for variety, but the game is played the same on both sides.

For a 2-Player game: Place 21 of the Regular Cat Tiles on the Board, covering the two bottom rows of spaces.

  2. Place Wool Tokens. These are placed on each uncovered space with the number "8".

  3. Determine the Starting Player. This is the person who most recently petted a cat! The Last Player will be the person to their right.

  4. Distribute the Regular Cat Tiles. These are given to players as follows:

    • 4-player game: Each player gets 18 Tiles. Then the Last Player gives 1 Tile to the Starting Player.
    • 3-player game: Each player gets 24 Tiles. Then the Last Player gives 1 Tile to the Starting Player.
    • 2-player game: The Starting Player gets 26 Tiles and the Last Player gets 25 Tiles.
  5. Place the 12 Gold Cat Tiles. These start the game in a supply pile next to the board.

  6. Give Five Dice to the Starting Player.

Now you're ready to play!

Goal of the Game

During the game, each player tries to place all their Cat Tiles on the Board, carefully stacking them to form a cosy Purrramid. The first person to place all their Regular Cat Tiles will be the winner, but they continue the game using the Gold Cat Tiles. All players continue taking turns until one of the Game End conditions is met (see Game End and Scoring). At that point, the winner's score is determined by how many Gold Cat Tiles they were able to place.

Gameplay

Players take turns separately. Beginning with the Starting Player and continuing in clockwise order, each player rolls dice, places them on Board spaces and, if all goes well, uses them to add Cat Tiles to the Purrramid.

Each turn, a player does the following:

1. Roll all five dice.

2. Choose ONE unoccupied space on the Board.

An unoccupied space is one without Cat Tile or dice on it, though it may have a Wool Token. Place one or more dice in the chosen space. The dice numbers need to add up to a total that matches the number on the space.

Example: On a "6" space you can place a single "6" die or a "2" and a "4".

Note: As you'll see shortly, you need to place your dice strategically if you want to replace them with Cat Tiles at the end of your turn.

If you cannot place a die on any space, you Bust (see "Busting").

3. Continue or Stop

After placing one or more dice on the chosen space, you decide if you want to Continue or Stop.

Continue Roll all the dice you haven't yet placed on the Board. Then choose another unoccupied space on the Board and place one or more dice there, so that their total matches the number on that space. Repeat this process until you either choose to Stop, or run out of dice to roll and therefore must Stop.

Stop Move on to the final step of your turn: Place Cat Tiles. Check if ALL your dice on the Board meet both Tile Placement Conditions (see next section). If they do, remove them and place Cat Tiles as described in the next section. Otherwise, you Bust (see "Busting").

4. Place Cat Tiles

If the dice you placed this turn meet the Tile Placement Conditions described below, you can replace them with Cat Tiles.

Tile Placement Conditions:

  • All spaces occupied by dice must be connected. If you placed dice on more than one space, all spaces with dice must be adjacent to each other.
  • All spaces with dice must be supported. A space is considered supported if it is either placed on the bottom row of the Board (the kitty lies on the floor) or ALL the spaces directly below it have Cat Tiles or dice on them (the kitty rests on top of other cats).

If both conditions are met, replace your dice with your Cat Tiles as follows:

  • On each "10" space, place 2 Cat Tiles next to each other to cover the whole space.
  • On each "12" space, place 3 Cat Tiles stacked one on top of the other.
  • On each other space, place 1 Cat Tile.

If one or both conditions are not met, you Bust (see "Busting").

Note: The Tile Placement Conditions must be met only once you Stop. During your turn you may place dice on spaces that do not meet them yet, provided that later you connect and support all the spaces with dice, before placing Cat Tiles on them.

Examples:

  • Both Tile Placement Conditions are met. You replace the dice with your Cat Tiles.
  • The "8" space (occupied by the "3" and "5" dice) is not supported, as the "2" space below has not been filled. You Bust and place no Cat Tiles.
  • The spaces with dice are not connected. You Bust and place no Cat Tiles.

Note: Only spaces with dice placed in a single turn must be connected. Once a new turn begins, the player may place their dice anywhere on the Board, as long as the Tile Placement Conditions are met in the end. This also applies to Bonus Turns (see next section).

Bonus Turns

At the end of your turn, you can earn a Bonus Turn by meeting one or both of the following conditions:

  • ALL dice used for the turn were placed on the Board and successfully replaced with Cat Tiles.
  • OR you placed dice on three or more levels of the Board and successfully replaced them with Cat Tiles.

When one or both of these conditions are met, you instantly start a Bonus Turn.

A Bonus Turn proceeds in the same way as a regular turn. However, you use fewer dice. Before the first roll of your Bonus Turn, put one die aside and roll the remaining four. If at the end of your Bonus Turn you again meet one or both of the Bonus conditions, you immediately start another Bonus Turn — now played with only three dice, and so on.

Busting

You Bust whenever:

  • After rolling dice, you are unable to place any of them on the Board, or
  • After you Stop, you do not meet the Tile Placement Conditions.

Busting means that your turn immediately ends. You place no Cat Tiles and your dice are removed from the Board.

Wool Tokens

Whenever you place a Cat Tile on a space with the number "8", take the Wool Token from this space. This only happens after you have replaced your dice with a Cat Tile — simply placing your dice on an "8" space does not grant a Wool Token.

You can use collected Wool Tokens to reroll dice after any roll during your turn. To do so, return the Wool Token to the box and reroll ALL the dice you just rolled. You may use as many Wool Tokens as you wish during a single turn, even to reroll the same group of dice multiple times.

Turn Examples

Lionela starts her turn by rolling all five dice. She takes the two "3" dice and places them on the "6" space (3 + 3 = 6). Then she decides to Continue.

She rolls the remaining three dice and puts the "1" and "2" dice on the space with the number "3" (1 + 2 = 3). Then she decides to Continue again.

Lionela rolls her last die and gets "4". Unfortunately, it is impossible to place this die in a way that would meet the Tile Placement Conditions at the end of the turn. This means that Lionela Busts and removes all her dice from the Board without placing any Cat Tiles.

Now Felix starts his turn. He rolls all five dice and chooses the "6" die to place on the "6" space. Then he decides to Continue.

He rolls the remaining four dice and puts the two with the number "4" on the "8" space. The Wool Token stays on the Board for now. Felix decides to Continue. He knows that to meet the Tile Placement Conditions, he needs to place one or more dice on the "2" space to provide required support.

Felix is lucky! He places the last two dice on the "2" space and meets the Tile Placement Conditions.

He takes all the dice from the Board and collects the Wool Token. Then he places three Cat Tiles in the spaces previously occupied by the dice.

As Felix used all his dice this turn, he instantly starts a Bonus Turn. He puts one die aside and rolls the remaining four. He chooses the "1" and "2" dice and places them on the "3" space. Then he decides to Continue.

Felix rolls the two remaining dice. He is not satisfied with the results, so he spends a Wool Token to reroll them.

After rerolling, he puts the "6" die on the "6" space.

At this point Felix decides to Stop instead of rolling the remaining die. Both Tile Placement Conditions are met, so he can replace the dice on the Board with Cat Tiles.

Felix's turn ends. The next player in clockwise order takes their turn.

Winning

The first player to place all their Regular Cat Tiles on the Board wins the game. They also become Grandma's new furrr-vorite helper!

However, the game does not end there. As soon as the winner places their final Regular Cat Tile, they take all Gold Cat Tiles. If their current turn allows the winning player to place further Cat Tiles on the Board, they immediately do so with Gold Cat Tiles. Then the game continues as normal with the winning player using the Gold Cat Tiles and everyone else using their Regular Cat Tiles.

Game End and Scoring

The game immediately ends when:

  • All the spaces on the Board are occupied by Cat Tiles, or
  • A second player places all their Cat Tiles on the Board, or
  • The winning player places all Gold Cat Tiles on the Board.

The winner scores as many points as they placed Gold Cat Tiles on the Board. Their score determines the title they bear from now on:

  • 0: Decent Kitten Juggler, but your chaotic efforts left the cats wide awake.
  • 1 – 2: Drowsy Whisperer, whose quiet murmurs worked to calm the cats… occasionally.
  • 3 – 4: Pawssionate Lullabist, who can soothe most kittens into taking a brief snooze.
  • 5 – 6: Master of Cat Naps, whose techniques are studied by feline caretakers.
  • 7 – 8: Grand Slumbermage, capable of lulling even the most restless cats into blissful sleep.
  • 9 – 11: Legendary Dreamweaver, whose bedtime magic is whispered about in feline folklore.
  • 12: The Ultimate Purrrchitect of Sleep, whose lullabies shape the dreams of all catkind!

All other players score as many negative points as they have Regular Cat Tiles left in front of them.

Players who are especially dedicated to stacking sleeping kittens may play multiple games on both sides of the Board, then add up their scores to see who had the highest total.
