Object

Players, each acting as a manager of a pro football team, try to build the team with the most valuable players.

Equipment

  • Football spinner / card tray
  • Option, Contract, & Value cards; football cards (you can use your own to update the original cards).
  • Team trays with the 11 offensive positions on a football team

Setup

Shuffle all the cards and place them in the appropriate trays. Each player is dealt 2 player cards, 2 Value cards, 6 Contract cards, and 1 Option card. Each player places the 2 football cards into his team tray, and also places the 2 Value cards, without revealing them, behind the 2 player cards, so that the values face the player.

Game Play

Players decide who starts the game. On his turn, a player may do one of the following:

  • Play an Option card
  • Spin the spinner on the football and follow the instructions
  • Place one of his sidelined players in the team tray (i.e., his starting line-up) to an empty slot or to replace an existing player

Once football player cards have been positioned in the tray, they cannot be moved.

Anytime a player acquires a new football card, he takes the top Value card, reveals the value to all players, and places both in the team tray. After this, the values are not revealed again, even if a player is sidelined.

Contract cards are used as money and used to acquire new players throughout the game.

Option cards are obtained on some of the spins on the football spinner. A player using an Option card on his turn does not spin the football.

  • The Acquire card allows a player to take another football player from another player, starting OR sidelined.
  • In a Trade, if a player does not have an empty slot for the football player he just traded for, he must sideline that football player.
  • In Trade a Future Draft Pick, the player that had the player taken places the Option card in front of him – at any time during the game, that player may turn in the card to take the top football player from the deck and a Value card.
  • Only one Stop Option card can be used during a turn.

Sidelining a Football Player

When a player has too many football players for a position, he must decide which football players to keep and which one to sideline.

Drafts

Drafts are used to acquire the top player from the deck and the top Value card. Contracts are used in bidding and a player may not bid over the actual contract values he holds. Only the winning bidder turns in all the contracts used in the bid to the bottom of the Contract deck in the tray. Bidding is optional and a player may "pass" during a draft.

  • Open Draft - players announce their bids out loud until a highest bid is reached. That player takes the top football player and Value card.
  • Closed Draft - players place as many contracts as they want face down. The highest bidder wins. That player takes the top football player and Value card.

Game End

The game ends when one player has completely filled in his tray, or starting line-up. The first player to do so receives 75 bonus points. Everyone adds all the values for the football players in their starting line-up, and the highest total wins.
