The Battle of Dipaea

Event card marker printed on the card: 3

In 464 BC Sparta crushed the army of Argos at the Battle of Dipaea, halting the expansion of the Arcadians into the north-west of the Peloponnese (Achaia territory).

In this round, the first player who collects tribute in Achaia does not have to pay prestige for this action.

Megarian Decree

Event card marker printed on the card: 4

Under the pretext of desecrating sacred lands, Athens imposes harsh economic sanctions on Megaris, hoping to undermine the economy of the Peloponnesian League. Sparta is regarded by many poleis as the more reliable ally.

  • Sparta: +1 prestige.
  • Athens may immediately perform the trade action.

Destruction of Plataea

Event card marker printed on the card: 5α

The pro-Athenian polis of Plataea was subjected to a long siege, destroyed, and its inhabitants were killed. In full view of the population of Greece, the Spartans broke their oath of eternal respect to the Plataeans for their courage in the Greco-Persian Wars.

  • Sparta: +1 hoplite in Boiotia. Until the end of the round, when besieging Thebes (Thebai), Sparta adds +1 to each die roll.
  • Athens: +2 prestige.

Thucydides Concludes "History of the Peloponnesian War"

Event card marker printed on the card: 5β

Thucydides returns from exile to edit the text of his masterpiece and complete the account of the last six years of the war. He proclaims that, despite defeat, the losing side played a major role in establishing the peace.

Place the card next to the projects as a reminder.

At the end of the game, after the "End of Round" phase, the player with the least prestige may return Thucydides to his homeland and gain +3 prestige, paying 6 silver.
