Card Anatomy

Animal cards

  • Illustration: collect three animals of one kind and win the game.
  • Suit: clubs, spades, hearts or diamonds.
  • Coin symbol: important for certain treasure cards.

Treasure cards

  • Extra win condition: shown at the top of the card.
  • X: only treasure cards have this symbol.

Setup

"All hands on deck!"

  1. The player with the cleanest hands shuffles the cards.
  2. After a thorough shuffle, place the cards face down in the middle of the table. This is the draw pile.
  3. Everyone draws one card.
  4. You may look at your card, but keep it hidden from the other players.

Turn Order

  • Forget about each player taking a turn in order around the table.
  • Instead: when you receive a card from someone, you are next to take a turn.
  • The captain: the oldest "shipmate" begins. Otherwise, the winner of the previous round begins.

On Your Turn

  1. Reveal the top card of the draw pile.
  2. Choose a player and give them the card. You may not give a card to yourself.
  3. The recipient of the card checks whether they have three of one animal (3 dogs, 3 chickens, 3 cats or 3 pigs) in their hand.
    • If not: your turn is over, and the player who just received the card reveals the next card from the draw pile.

The Animals Mess Things Up

(Printed heading: "Maar de dieren laten alles in het honderd lopen...")

The Greedy Cat (spades)

  • Give this card to a player.
  • They win if they have 3 cats in hand.
  • If not, they reveal the next card from the draw pile.
  • The cat gives coins. This is important for some treasure cards.

The Sneaky Dog (diamonds)

  • Give this card to a player.
  • They win if they have 3 dogs.
  • If not, then instead of revealing the next card from the draw pile, they must give a card from their hand to another player.
  • That player must give away a card from their hand, except a dog card.
  • The special properties of the animals keep working.
  • In the rare case that the player has only 2 dogs in hand, they must show their hand and simply reveal the next card from the draw pile.

The Drooling Swine (hearts)

  • Give this card to a player.
  • That player must show their cards to all players.
  • They win if they have 3 pigs.
  • If not, they hide their cards and reveal the next card from the draw pile.

The Quirky Chicken (clubs)

  • You may only give the chicken to the player with the fewest cards in hand (not counting yourself).
  • If several players have the same number of cards, you may choose among them.
  • This player wins if they have 3 chickens in hand.
  • If not, they reveal the next card from the draw pile.

The Pearl Divers' Trick

(Printed as a handwritten note on the rules sheet.)

  • If someone takes a very long time to give away a card, anyone may shout "Aargh! Forward with the goat!"
  • The card-giver must hold their breath.
  • If they gasp for air (or lose consciousness) before the card has been given away, the card goes to the player on their left.

Treasure Cards (X)

Usually you win the game with 3 identical animals in hand, but the treasure cards give you an extra win condition.

  • You give a treasure card just like an animal card.
  • Each time a player receives a card, they also check whether they have won with the extra win condition of their treasure card(s).

The Map

  • You can also win if you have 3 treasure cards in hand (including this treasure card).

The Treasure Chest (gold coins)

  • You can also win if you can count 3 gold coins (or more) on the cards in your hand.

The Treasure Chest (copper coins)

  • You can also win if you can count 3 copper coins (or more) on the cards in your hand.

The Treasure Chest (any coins)

  • You can also win if you can count 5 coins (or more, regardless of colour) on the cards in your hand.

The Golden Jaguar

  • You also win if you have one card of each animal in hand: 1 pig, 1 cat, 1 dog and 1 chicken.

The Golden Llama (black)

  • You also win if you have 4 black cards (2 spades, 2 clubs) in hand.

The Golden Llama (red)

  • You also win if you have 4 red cards (2 hearts, 2 diamonds) in hand.

The Golden Skull

  • You also win if you have 7 or more cards in hand.

The Porcupine

  • You also win if you can collect 3 pairs in hand (for example: 2 treasure cards, 2 pigs, 2 cats or 2 dogs, 2 chickens, 2 pigs).
  • Note: the printed list ends with "2 pigs" a second time. Transcribed as printed.

Winning the Game

The first player to complete three of one animal, or the extra win condition of a treasure card, wins the game!
