- Cards: 40 cards (63 x 88 mm), 5 colors x numbered cards from 1 to 8. The colors are Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple and Green, and each color has a dog row and a cat row.
- Weather Card: 2 cards (91 x 128 mm). Front: side A. Back: side B.
- Weather bag: 1.
- Lightning disc: 1 (black).
- Weather discs: 8 (4 white, 2 red, 2 blue).
- Sticker for disc: 1 piece.
- Rule book [Japanese/English]: 1 copy (this paper).
Preparation
- Everyone decides which side of the weather will be used for this round. The side to be used (side A or B) of the Weather Card is turned up, and the two cards are lined up vertically.
- When using side B: after mixing the weather discs in the weather bag, take them out one by one and place them next to the numbers, starting from the bottom of the Weather Card (number 1).
- Place the lightning disc in position "5" on the Weather Card.
- Prepare the cards according to the number of players.
- 3 players: 4 colors x 8 cards each (except for all the cards of one color, which are put away in a box).
- 4 players: 5 colors x 8 cards each (all cards are used).
- Shuffle the cards well and deal 10 cards face down to each player.
- When playing with 3 players, the 2 extra cards are revealed face up and divided by mark (dog or cat) and placed in various places on the Weather Card.
- Only you check the cards in your hand (the cards you were dealt).
- You may rearrange the cards in your hand.
Sticker note (from the components panel): place a sticker on both sides of each disc. You can also play without stickers if it does not interfere with your play. Use the extra stickers on the weather bag or wherever you like.
How to Play
- The game will start with the person who has recently been struck by lightning or who has seen a lightning bolt. If no one corresponds, decide the first player in an appropriate way.
- The game proceeds clockwise. The first player chooses a card from their hand and puts it out face up.
- Players 2 to 4 must select a card in their hand of the same color as the card played by the first player. If there is a card of the same color as the card played by the first player, the second to fourth player must choose one of the cards in his or her hand. If there is no card of the same color in hand, the player chooses a card of any color. One card must be played in each trick.
- After everyone has played a card, a "Lightning Strike Judgment" is made. Look at the "number" on the card that is out, regardless of color. Lightning strikes the player whose card is closest to the position (number) of the lightning disc on the Weather Card. See "Lightning Strike Judgment" for the order of decision.
- The player who is struck by lightning checks the icon for the place where the lightning disc is placed, receives cards from the defined location, and places them in front of themselves. See "Receive Card" for the card to receive and how to place it.
- After receiving the cards, separate the cards used in this trick into dog and cat, and place them face up on their respective card places.
- Be careful not to place the card used this time before receiving the card!
- Before starting the next trick, move the lightning disc one column up.
- After the top column 8, the lightning disc is moved to the bottom column 1.
- The numbers "8" and "1" are not connected in judging the strength (distance) of the numbers.
- The next trick begins with the player who was struck by lightning in the current trick. The player chooses a card from the hand and plays it to start the next trick.
- After 10 tricks (when you have used all the cards in your hand), one round ends. The score is calculated from the cards placed in front of you and recorded in a note or chip.
Lightning Strike Judgment
Judged by the distance from the lightning disc.
(1) Closest number: The same position (0 distance) is the closest.
(2) If there are multiple numbers at the same distance: the number at a lower position than the lightning disc.
(3) If there are multiple numbers that are the same: the person who played later in the turn.
The order of strike when the lightning disc is on "5" (the number at each position, its distance from the disc, and the order in which it is judged):
| Number (position) | Distance | Order of strike |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | 3 | 7 |
| 7 | 2 | 5 |
| 6 | 1 | 3 |
| 5 (lightning disc) | 0 | 1 |
| 4 | 1 | 2 |
| 3 | 2 | 4 |
| 2 | 3 | 6 |
| 1 | 4 | 8 |
Note: the sheet prints the order of strike and distance beside each position of the Weather Card; the position labels above are read from that layout.
Example: In this trick, "5" with the lightning disc is the closest number, but there is no "5" card, so the "4" and "6" cards are the closest numbers. In the case of the same distance, lightning strikes the number lower than the lightning disc, so lightning strikes the "4" card. Since there are two "4" cards out, the third player who plays a later card will be struck by lightning.
Receive Card
Cards to Receive: It is determined by the icon next to the lightning disc.
- Cat icon (A): Receive all cards currently in "CATS".
- Dog icon (B): Receive all cards currently in "DOGS".
- Other (C): Receive the card you played in this trick.
How to place cards: How the cards are placed depends on where they are received. *When stacking cards, place them slightly apart.
- A or B: The card received from the "CATS" or "DOGS" card deck is placed face down in front of you.
- C: When you receive the card you played, you place it face up in front of you.
About Cards
The card has 1 to 4 lightning icons drawn on it, depending on the number. The number of lightning icons for each number can also be found on the Weather Card.
| Lightning icons | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Numbers | 4 and 5 | 3 and 6 | 2 and 7 | 1 and 8 |
- Icons are listed at the top and bottom of the card, but only one of them is used in the calculation.
- When placing the cards, they are placed face up, staggered so that the numbers on each card are visible.
- Only you can see the face down cards placed in front of you.
- When a player receives a card, if there is no card in the defined place, the player does not receive any card and proceeds to the next trick.
