- 6 Park Cards
- 4 Pencils

Quick Set-Up Guide
- Give a pencil and logbook to each player.
- Set the trail board to the proper player count.
- Shuffle and place Trail Tokens on the Sites. Remove the binoculars token at 1-2 players.
- Pick a Park card and sketch the landmark in your first Journal spread.
- Determine a first player.
- The player going 2nd gains 1 sun.
- The players going 3rd and 4th gain 2 suns.
- Roll the dice to start the Day phase.
Game Setup
- Grab your gear! Give each player a pencil and a Logbook. Open your book to a new sheet. The Logbook is where you will play your game.
- Plan your route! Place the Trail Board in the middle of the table, with the 1-2 player or 3-4 player side up depending on your player count.
- Prepare the trail! Grab the 5 Trail Tokens. For 1-2 players, return the Binoculars Token to the box. Shuffle the tokens and place one face-up above each of the Trail Sites on the board. Then, place the Group Token at the Trailhead.
- Pick your park! Choose a Park card and place it next to the Trail Board, action side up. For your first game, hike in Yosemite. This will give you a good feel for the game!
- Sketch a Landmark! Each player now draws the unique Landmark icon of the Park Card on the top left page in their Journal section. For Yosemite, this icon is the Waterfall.
- Ready the group! Choose the first player. Everyone begins with 1 Sun already outlined in their Sun Section. The second player in clockwise order outlines one additional Sun circle. Players three and four outline two additional Sun circles.
- Get rolling! Roll the dice and place them above the Trail Board to form the dice pool.
Gameplay Overview
Parks: Roll & Hike is played over three rounds, each with a Day Phase and Night Phase. During the Day Phase, you and your fellow hikers take turns choosing a die from the dice pool, seeing sights along the way, and moving the Group toward Trail's End. Once the Group reaches the final site, players will gain bonuses and score points during the Night Phase. After the third round, players will tally their score to see who won.
Day Phase
Starting with the first player, each player takes turns in clockwise order. On your turn, select any 1 die from the dice pool and place it in front of you — removing it from the pool. You will mark the icon(s) from that die in your Logbook and resolve its effects. Then, it's the next player's turn.
Sunshine
Sun represents time on the Trail. When you take a die with sun, outline a circle in your Sun Section for each icon shown.
This shows you have it available in your supply. Sun can be used later to take the Lead Hiker Die or earn Park bonuses during the Night Phase. When you use a Sun, cross it out.
Water
Taking a die with Water helps fill your Canteen. For each water you gain, fill in a water drop. Your Canteen is filled from left to right, top to bottom. Your Canteen will score points during each Night Phase for the lowest row you have completely filled.
Landmarks
Landmarks engage with the left page of your Logbook. When you take a die with a Landmark, you may:
Sketch it on the left page of the next open 2-page Spread of your Journal
OR
Fill in a circle in the corresponding area of your Night section
Journal sketches always go on the left page of a Spread. Sketches must be placed from left to right, top to bottom. The Arrowhead represents the unique Landmark of each Park. When you choose to sketch an Arrowhead, draw the Park specific icon instead.
Instead of sketching, you may choose to fill in one circle next to the matching Landmark icon in your Night section. Filled circles grant bonuses in the Night Phase.
Pencils
When you take a die with a Pencil, scribble one line on the right page of an available Spread in your Journal. Available pages are ones that already have a Landmark sketch. Each line scores 1 Point at the end of the game. Each Spread can hold up to 3 lines. You do not have to finish a Spread to place your next sketch.
Journal Bonuses
When a Spread has been filled with 3 lines, it's complete and no longer available to write in. Gain its associated bonus action immediately! The common Landmark bonuses are listed at the top of your Journal section.
Each Park has a unique bonus when you complete a Spread with its Landmark. These bonuses are displayed on the Park card for players to see.
Some dice have two icons. If there is no slash, then you gain both icons and may activate them in the order of your choice.
If there is a slash between them, then you must choose one of the two.
Wildlife
When you take a die showing Wildlife, cross out the next open box in the depicted animal's row and gain the bonus immediately. Wildlife must be crossed out from left to right. Their actions become more powerful farther across the row.
Wildlife Scoring
When you cross out Wildlife boxes above and below a scoring shield, circle it! These shields score at the end of the game.
Binoculars
When you take a die with Binoculars, fill any open circle in your Binoculars section. Once you've filled in both circles next to an icon, cross out the icon and mark it in your Logbook as if you had taken a die with it. Each icon can only be gained once.
If you ever take a die and cannot use it, gain a Sun instead.
Lead Hiker Die
Instead of taking a Hiking Die, you can take the Lead Hiker Die for a powerful turn. To take this die, you must pay Sun equal to the remaining Hiking Dice in the dice pool. If there are no Hiking Dice remaining, then it's free. When you take the Lead Hiker Die, do the following:
- Move the Group Token to the next Trail Site
- Mark the icons from the new Trail Site Token and the Lead Hiker Die in your Logbook in the order of your choice
- All players (including you) may scribble one line for free on a Journal page matching the current Landmark.* You must have an available Spread to get this Site bonus. It pays off to plan ahead!
Then, the next player collects all dice and rolls them. They place them above the board and then take their turn.
When Group Token reaches the final Site on the Trail Board, you've finished the Day's hike. Resolve all 3 Steps of the Lead Hiker's turn. Now, it's time to reflect on the day and celebrate at Night!
* The Binoculars Trail Token can see any Landmark from afar! After the Lead Hiker moves the Group and marks their Logbook, they call out a Landmark of their choice. All players scribble one line for free if they have an available Spread with the named Landmark.
Turn Example
The player before Sierra just took the die she wanted! Sierra still has some good options though. (1) She opts to take the Fish / Bird die — choosing Fish from the two options. (2) She crosses out the Fish box in her Wildlife Section. (3) Then, she marks its Water in her Canteen.
Lead Hiker Example
With two Hiking Dice remaining, (1) Cliff spends two Sun to take the Lead Hiker Die. (2) He moves the Group Token to the Mountain site. (3) Using the Lead Hiker Die, he fills any Binoculars circle — Cliff likes Turtles. (4) From the Trail Site Token, he chooses to sketch a Mountain. (5) Cliff shouts, "Look at them Mountains!" All players may now scribble a free line in an available Mountain page.
Night Phase
During the Night Phase, all players activate bonuses in the Night section of their Logbook and on the Park Card. This may be done simultaneously, and each player chooses the desired order to activate them.
Night Section
For each filled-in circle, gain the corresponding icon to use in your Logbook. You must fully resolve the bonus effects of the Landmark's section you are activating before moving on to another. Mark off a section's small dot to show it has resolved for the round.
Night Bonuses on Parks
You may activate a Park's indicated bonus by paying its Sun cost. Each player may activate it once per Night Phase. You may activate the bonus before, after, or in between Landmark sections of your Logbook.
Score Your Canteen
After gaining your Night bonuses, score the number of points listed on the lowest completed row of your Canteen. Write this number in the current round of your Scoring section.
New Round Setup
After a Night Phase is complete, set up the Trail Board for a new hike:
- Move the Group Token back to the Trailhead.
- Shuffle the Trail Tokens and place each one face-up above each Site.
- Play continues with the next player in turn order, who rolls all dice for the new Day.
Your hike is done after the completion of the Night Phase on round three. Then, continue to final scoring!
Final Scoring
- Canteen: Total the Canteen points you earned each round.
- Journal: Gain 1 point for each of your scribbled lines. Gain 5 points if you sketched the final page.
- Wildlife: Total the points on all of your circled scoring shields.
- Park Scoring: Consult the Park card for additional scoring opportunities.
The player who scored the most points, wins!
