Can I help my partner's youngling task, and what if I cannot do the first option?

Yes to helping: it is basic helping, and your weapon bonus can count toward your partner's weapon. Choose the option you can do: with a tool you take the second option; with no tool on a youngling and no trial card, nothing happens. If there are no mountain cards in your deck the card is still destroyed.
