When can I use a healing root, and can I split the healing or heal other players' people?

Use it before or after an action, not in the middle of one; the designer-quoted FAQ says it cannot prevent a death. Its 3 healing points may be divided among any humans in your group, and you can heal the other group's humans only while helping or being helped. The medical token must be used within one turn. An older, looser designer answer ('whenever you want') was narrowed by this FAQ text.
