The designer confirmed that triggered effects wait until the action is finished, and players agree rewards cannot fund the boost.

No. Rewards arrive after the action is complete (for example Engellier's 2 Silver), so they cannot fund the boost. A Paladin's Silver discount, however, applies to the boost as part of the action.
